St Mary’s Calne is a member of the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA) and the Headmasters’ and Headmistress’ Conference (HMC); it is a leader in the field of girls’ independent boarding education.  It has around 360 girls aged 11-18, including 120+ girls in the Sixth Form.   As well as innovative teaching, learning and scholarship, St Mary’s Calne offers outstanding pastoral care and a vibrant, warm community.

Opportunity

Sport plays a very important part in life at St Mary’s and in recent years the school has enjoyed a strong and improving reputation for success.  There are twelve members of the Physical Education Department (some of whom carry other responsibilities) under the direction of the Director of Sport.  In addition, there is an independently run Tennis Academy and an Equestrian Co-ordinator.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Lacrosse Coach who is able to coach this sport to a very high standard.  St Mary’s is regularly in the top 16 schools at all age ranges at the National Schools’ Lacrosse Championships.

Reporting to the Head of Lacrosse, the Lacrosse Coach will, amongst other duties: support coaching, development and performance; promote a high standard of Lacrosse at the school; be responsible for specific teams as directed by the Head of Lacrosse and support the Head of Lacrosse in developing and increasing enjoyment and participation for Lacrosse throughout the school.

The ability to offer the coaching of other sports to a good level would be an advantage.

  • An ability to coach Lacrosse from Year 7 to Year 13.
  • An empathetic, enthusiastic and well-presented person, capable of inspiring confidence in pupils, parents and staff.
  • Ability to: work flexibly to fulfil the requirements of the post; prioritise; work calmly under pressure and respond positively to changing demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with very good written and spoken English.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills; competency in the use of ICT for administration and teaching purposes.
  • An understanding of the expectations, ethos and aims of a full boarding school.
  • Committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children and young people.
