Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced, vocational educator and leader with a proven track record of successful UK, PYP and international teaching and leadership experience.

Our new Head of Primary will enjoy working collaboratively with fellow innovative and creative leaders and teachers, who are committed to offering a world class, student-centred, education to a diverse and caring community of international day & boarding students at the British School in Lomé, Togo, West Africa.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning themselves. They will be passionate about inspiring and challenging all our students to achieve more than they think possible, through the provision of an engaging learning program of curricula and extra curricula activities.

The British School of Lomé is located in a very safe, leafy area of the capital city of Togo about 20 minutes’ drive from the sea. The school is well-established and enjoys an excellent reputation in Togo, in West Africa and globally. BSL has always been an inclusive school and our motto is ‘Endeavour is all.’ Our academic and behavioural expectations are high, and we encourage all students to give of their best in all areas of school life. We see BSL as not only, ‘The Gateway to University’, but also as The Gateway to a rich and rewarding future life in all its aspects and the foundations for this are laid in our expanding Primary School.

BSL is an affiliate member of the Boarding School Association, and we are currently updating and expanding our boarding facilities. The International Duke of Edinburgh Award is well established at BSL, and our students enjoy contributing to service activities, learning new skills, doing a wide range of sporting activities and participating in Camping trips and adventurous journeys in the hilly regions of Togo. Our application to become a member of the internationally renowned Round Square School organisation is in its final stages.

BSL has a well-established and authorised IBDP programme and offers Cambridge IGCSE’s in the Secondary School. The Primary school currently offers the UK curriculum and is in the process of developing the PYP teaching and learning strategies and practices to become a PYP accredited Primary School.

Togo is one of the fastest growing economies in West Africa, as a result of this, the international community is growing, and we anticipate this expansion to be reflected in the school numbers.

Our BSL alumni live and work all over the world and many of them have won international awards and are leaders in their field. In September 2023 we are looking forward to seeing many of them join us to help us celebrate our 40th anniversary of the founding of BSL.

If you have the skills and experience for this post, and are interested in learning more about the school, we very much look forward to receiving your application. Further details and a job description are available on request.
