Assistant Houseparent – Ashford School, Non-teaching

Full time

Start date – as soon as possible

Job Purpose

  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of boarders and to act as a point of contact for their parents/guardians and staff.
  • To monitor the boarders’ personal hygiene, guide and encourage them to keep their living areas clean, tidy and organised.
  • To generally assist the Houseparent in the day-to-day running of the boarding house including significant administrative duties

Responsible for

  • The well-being of boarders, their daily routine and organisation.

Boarders from age 10 to 18 make up about 30% of the student population of the Senior School and represent over 20 different nationalities.  The boarders are fully integrated into the life of the school and, during the school day, all boarders join one of six houses with day pupils.  We operate a 5-day teaching week and so the boarding staff provide care and activities in the evenings and at weekends.  Teachers contribute to a programme of activities for boarders.

There are two boarding houses with approximately 60 resident children who are looked after by at least three resident staff in each House and other boarding staff.

Each House is led by a Houseparent, each of whom is a teacher with other school responsibilities, so support is needed in the day-to-day running of the House.  Staff accommodation is available if required.

Boarding staff should enjoy the company of young people from different cultures and have an understanding of their needs.

Closing date for receipt of applications: 12 noon on Friday 28 January 2022
