When overlooked\, it can hinder a young person’s ability to settle\, succeed\, and flourish both in the boarding house and the wider school community. For staff working closely with boarders – particularly during the early weeks of term or following returns from extended leave – having the tools and confidence to support those struggling with homesickness is vital. \nThis practical and reflective webinar will help staff understand the emotional dynamics of homesickness\, how it manifests\, and its potential impact. Participants will explore effective\, compassionate strategies and resources to support boarders\, alongside guidance on how to create an emotionally nurturing boarding environment. With her husband Jonny\, they run the boarding house\, which includes looking after the choristers who sing in St George’s Chapel. Ally has worked in boarding education for over 20 years. She recently completed an MA in Boarding Education\, looking at resilience and prep boarders. Ally is a trained Mental Health First Aider and Instructor Member\, and is currently rolling out training to staff and parents.
