However\, staff CPD opportunities seldom focus on these key areas. \n As part of a refocus of the training available through the BSA Group and Hieda\, we can now offer a standalone Professional Practice Certificate for school staff on medical matters. \nThis course will link professional practice with current research and best practice to provide a unique opportunity for non-registered medical staff\, whether working in relative isolation or as part of the medical team\, to develop their knowledge\, skills and practice across a wide range of the key current themes/topics most relevant to their role. In addition\, there will be a linked project which will provide the chance to focus on a specific aspect in more detail. \nThe course is tutor-led and will consist of three separate live online study days spread over a full academic year. The sessions on each study day will be a mixture of presentations often with an external expert\, and group discussions. \nStudy Days for This Module Are: \n\nDay 1:  February 5\, 2027\nDay 2:  March 11\, 2027\nDay 3:  March 22\, 2027\n\nTO BEGIN YOUR QUALIFICATION  CLICK HERE \nTimings for each study day – 10.00 to 15.45 \nTraining topics will include: \n\nThe role of a medical co-ordinator in a school setting\nMedical issues in the wider context: inspection planning\, managing medicines\nWorking with children with ASD and ADHD\nCommon illnesses and infection control\nManaging common injuries\nDelivering health education in a school setting\nWorking with asthma anaphylaxis\nMental health risk assessment/working with a mental health lead/pastoral team\nPolicy writing\nManaging children from overseas with medical conditions\nWorking with external agencies\nCourse assignment and reflection.\n\nCourse assignment: \nThe course assignment provides course students with an opportunity to focus on a specific area of particular relevance to their school/role. This can range from ‘supporting a student with a complex medical condition; a review of the medical provision in the school; the management of medical records across a whole school; health promotion models; to a student guide to accessing specific support for an emotional health issue. \nThe purpose is for the delegate to explore and compare their practice to guidance and whether it meets the needs of the child. \nThe assignment will take the form of a 2\,000+/-10%  word written essay  which must be submitted by July 2027. These will be assessed by the course tutor and the results published/certificates issued in the early Autumn. \nLearning outcomes: \n\nTo gain confidence in the role of medical management\nTo evaluate and reflect on current practice with a view to improving standards of care\nTo understand and be aware of current guidance that influences the practice we deliver\nTo network and develop awareness of the support available\nTo be able to work within the guidance safely.\n\n\nSpeakers: \nSinead O’Grady\, Lead Nurse\, Harrow School \nSinead is an Advanced nurse practitioner with over 15 years of nursing experience across hepatology\, haematology and emergency medicine. She now specialises in school medicine and is the lead nurse at Harrow school medical centre. \nSinead’s aim is to improve the health literacy of her pupils and empower them to utilise the variety of health and wellbeing services available to them. Tina has appeared on Lorraine\, Channel 5\, ITV\, STV\, BBC as well as Jeremy Vine\, Radio 1 and other national and international media outlets. \nTina grew up in Dundee and spoke of her life being perfect – or so she thought. “I can tell you exactly the day it all went wrong – the day my mum attacked my dad with a kitchen knife. In those few\, short seconds\, a black hole opened up in my life and I fell right in.” Tina’s world turned upside down. Tina turned to the one thing she thought she could control – food and from this moment\, began the biggest fight of her life. \nTina openly shares her life-or-death struggle with anorexia and the darkest moments she experienced in her life whilst in and out of psychiatric wards. SUMMARY:CBT development training
DESCRIPTION:🏷️ From £175\n📍 Online \n\nCourse outline \nThis training has been especially designed for BSA members as a follow up to CBT introduction: tools and strategies. Our speaker will take delegates further into the study of CBT practices and how we can use these to support young people in establishing resilience\, self-confidence and manage stress and negative feelings. \nThis one-day course is for delegates who have been using some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches in their work. This course will be an opportunity to develop and extend the skills of delegates who have started to apply some CBT tools in their work. The session will be bespoke and designed to build on the skills delegates are already using\, and introduce new tools to utilise. Delegates will leave the session with new skills and tools to extend their work and skills when working with individuals\, small groups and whole classes/houses. Delegates will also have the opportunity to raise specific areas where they would like to develop their skills which will be addressed e.g.\, wanting to use CBT tools with a wider range of young people\, to address different needs e.g.\, exam anxiety\, perfectionism\, peer relationships\, self-esteem\, social media use. \nWho is this course for? \n\nDelegates who have previously attended: CBT introduction – tools and strategies\nDelegates who are already using some aspects of CBT in their work. Jody completed her doctorate at the University of East London. She is also a Consultant Psychologist providing consultations for foster carers and supervising social workers. She is a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council. Before commencing her training\, Jody worked as a teacher\, learning support assistant and tutor with young people from 5-19. The focus of much of her work looked at anxiety and mental health issues in school settings. Her doctoral research explored the experiences\, perceptions and training needs of secondary school staff working with self-harm. \n  \n\n
