As awareness of these complexities grows\, many schools are finding value in developing a dedicated ‘fit to board’ policy. \nThis course supports schools in evaluating whether such a policy is appropriate for their context and guides staff through the key considerations involved in creating one. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nUnderstanding why a student may be deemed not ‘fit to board’\nBalancing individual needs with the safety and wellbeing of the boarding community\nLegal considerations\, including continuity of education and safeguarding obligations\nEffective communication and collaboration with parents\nKey components and considerations when drafting a ‘fit to board’ policy\n\nLearning outcomes: \nBy the end of the session\, participants will: \n\nUnderstand a range of reasons why a student may be considered unfit to board\nBe aware of the legal framework around education provision and safeguarding in a boarding context\nGain practical guidance for developing or refining a school policy on fitness to board\nBe better equipped to make fair\, balanced decisions that support both individual students and the wider boarding community\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \n \nDavid Walker\, Director\, Executive Director\, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB \nDavid is the BSA Director and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa\, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA\, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East.
