He is a member of UKCIS (UK Council for Internet Safety) and sits on the UKCIS evidence group\, education working group and the early warning group as well as on the advisory board for the UK Safer Internet Centre. He also sits on the Roblox trust and safety board where he represents the Insafe network. He was recently part of an expert steering group with TikTok looking at harmful and dangerous online challenges. \nKarl has worked for a number of key players in the UK and abroad including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre)\, BECTA (British Educational and Communications Technology Agency)\, the European Commission\, the UN and several Local Authorities within the UK and in Europe. \nAs an ex primary headteacher\, he continues to work closely in schools across Europe with children\, young people\, parents\, teachers and governors to develop safer online behaviours and the promotion of digital literacy. Karl has been employed for the last 16 years as an in-house consultant for INSAFE which is the coordinating node of the EU Better Internet for Kids programme where he is responsible for the coordination of safer internet helplines across Europe. Karl was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Marie Collins Foundation for 7 years\, a charity which supports young people who have been sexually abused and exploited online and is Chair of the board of trustees of Childnet international and Chair of the executive committee of SACPA (Safeguarding and Child Protection Association). Karl has recently worked with a team developing a national online safety strategy in Rwanda and chaired the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) working group to re-write their Child Online Protection Guidance.

He worked briefly as a specialist advisor on two World Health Organization projects before becoming the lead for early help within a large unitary authority. \nHe worked as an education safeguarding advisor supporting 530 schools and for the past 6 years has worked as the National Director of Safeguarding & Mental Health in a multi-academy trust. Jon is co-chair of the Pan-London Education Safeguarding Board\, founder member of the National Association of Academy Safeguarding Advisors (NAASA) and co-chairs the Coalition of Mental health provision between the State and Independent Sector. He also acts as a mentor to five young men starting in business ensuring that they develop to their full potential. In his spare time\, he is a voluntary youth worker. When (if) he ever relaxes he is a keen fan of Korean dramas (though must use subtitles). \n\nMike Grenier\, Deputy Head Pastoral\, Eton College \nMike oversees all our pastoral care for boys and so works closely with the Stephenson Centre for Wellbeing\, the Health Centre\, the Director of Safeguarding\, the Director of SPHERE\, the Director of Inclusion Education\, the Head of Access\, the Heads of Block as well as House Masters and Dames. \nMike studied English Literature at undergraduate level at the University of Oxford and has a PGDE from Edge Hill University. He was a House Master from 2004-17 in Wotton House and from 2019-21 in Evans’s House. His wife\, Emma\, is a physiotherapist\, and they have a daughter and a son. He is currently a governor at two prep schools. \n\nAlice Vicary-Stott\, Director of Safeguarding\, Eton College \nAlice takes specific responsibility for all safeguarding and child protection matters in the school. \nShe exercises her responsibilities in conjunction with four Deputy DSLs\, who are currently the Deputy Head (Pastoral)\, the Safeguarding Co-Ordinator\, the Head of D Block and the Director of SPHERE. \nAlice has a degree in Social Work\, and has worked in Children’s Social Care throughout her career in a variety of Social Care departments. Before joining Eton\, Alice was the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for Kingston\, Richmond\, Windsor and Maidenhead. In this role she was in charge of child protection services working closely with both maintained and independent schools\, the police and other statutory agencies. Alice was also chair of the National LADO Network up until she took up her post at Eton. \n\nAidan Peters\, School Counsellor\, Eton College \n  \n  \n  \n\nWill McNeil\, Sales Manager\, Overnet Data  \nWill McNeil is a seasoned EdTech professional with a decade of experience specialising in tools that foster communication\, engagement\, and safeguarding within schools. She is a trustee at a leading independent boarding school. \n  \n\n\n\nVirginia Parkes\, Director of Learning and Professional Development\, AGBIS \nVirginia (Ginny) Parkes commenced her career in education 20 years ago\, when she initially taught ICT and business studies up to\, and including\, A Level.  After several years in teaching\, Ginny moved into a consultancy based role before joining the Department for Education\, initially as Head of Digital Engagement for the Training and Development Agency (TDA) before moving on as a Senior Communications Advisor for the DfE.  Following the birth of her two daughters\, Ginny took up the role of Education Strategy Director for an educational trust in Greater Manchester\, before eventually taking up her previous role as Director of Finance & Operations (Bursar) at Beech Hall School in Cheshire.  Ginny is an experienced governance professional\, having sat as a governor for several schools throughout her career\, as well as holding the position of Director of Governance for a large complex FE college group in South Yorkshire.  Ginny is now a Trustee of the Sir John Brunner Foundation in Cheshire.  In addition to being a qualified teacher\, Ginny also holds a first degree in Business Management and a MSc. in Technology Enhanced Learning\, Innovation & Change. This seminar will complement a school-based induction and provide a wider context for staff new to boarding. The sooner staff new to boarding have a real understanding of the basic principles and expectations of their role\, the sooner the school will have effective staff members and teams who enjoy their duties\, feel able to support the young people in their care and deal with any challenges. \nThis seminar will cover the Duty of Care framework\, the legal context\, roles and boundaries\, and meeting boarders’ needs. By the end of the session\, delegates should feel more confident and be looking forward to enjoying their time on duty in their boarding house. In advance of the seminar\, it is recommended that delegates familiarise themselves with their schools’ boarding handbook and/or visited the boarding section of their school’s website and boarding promotional material. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nSafeguarding and the National Minimum Standards for Boarding in England – this session will explore current boarding practice with particular focus on safeguarding and the legal and inspection requirements of pastoral care in our schools\nMeeting the needs of the boarders – practical case studies will be used to explore the issues that arise every day in boarding\, and suggest ways in which these issues can be dealt with effectively and with confidence by the pastoral team\nUnderstanding your role in boarding – in this session the group will discuss and explore the expectations of the school\, the boarding house\, parents along with your own expectations with regards your boarding role in the school\nWorking safely and looking after yourself – some hints and tips on keeping yourself healthy\, safe and enjoying your role in boarding!\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nAn understanding of the principles and expectations of boarding\, and their role within that\nAn increased confidence to be able to support the young people in your care\nIncreased awareness of the legal context\, safeguarding and National Minimum Standards for Boarding in England.\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nMark Robinson\, BSA Senior Consultant \nMark has a Product Design Degree from Brunel University and a PGCE. His first post in independent education was as Assistant Master at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham where he held several positions including Assistant Housemaster to a junior boy’s boarding house. After five years he moved on to Ardingly College in West Sussex as a Head of Department and Housemaster to a joint day and boarding house. Mark has been an inspector on boarding inspections\, an Assistant Housemaster to a girls’ boarding house and fully involved in teaching up to ‘A‘ Level. \nIn 2002 Mark gave up teaching to set up Mentor Education Services Ltd\, a business offering education-related consultancy services to the independent sector\, initially training\, interview coaching and professional development but also marketing and pre-inspection to schools both in the independent and maintained sector. \nMark was appointed as Assistant Director of Training for the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2010\, where he continued offering training and consultancy to independent and state schools both in the UK and around the world. In 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral at Collège du Léman in Switzerland\, a large international boarding and day school. After gaining some further\, valuable international experience\, Mark returned to the UK to continue his training and consultancy in the Independent and state school sectors.

His first post in independent education was as Assistant Master at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham where he held several positions including Assistant Housemaster to a junior boy’s boarding house. After five years he moved on to Ardingly College in West Sussex as a Head of Department and Housemaster to a joint day and boarding house. Mark has been an inspector on boarding inspections\, an Assistant Housemaster to a girls’ boarding house and fully involved in teaching up to ‘A‘ Level. \nIn 2002 Mark gave up teaching to set up Mentor Education Services Ltd\, a business offering education-related consultancy services to the independent sector\, initially training\, interview coaching and professional development but also marketing and pre-inspection to schools both in the independent and maintained sector. \nMark was appointed as Assistant Director of Training for the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2010\, where he continued offering training and consultancy to independent and state schools both in the UK and around the world. In 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral at Collège du Léman in Switzerland\, a large international boarding and day school. After gaining some further\, valuable international experience\, Mark returned to the UK to continue his training and consultancy in the Independent and state school sectors.
