She was Assistant Boarding Housemistress at Wellington College before taking over her own mixed\, sixth form boarding house at LVS Ascot in 2014. She and her husband Tom have both worked closely with BSA\, and she has enjoyed writing some of their briefing papers\, delivering seminars and writing magazine articles\, including recently about the importance of sleep for teenagers. In 2019 the family moved to Malaysia where Rebecca took over a senior girls boarding house at Marlborough College just as the pandemic struck! She continues in her role as Housemistress and since August 2023 has been Head of Boarding.  \n\n\n \nRebecca represented Cambridge at lacrosse and hockey\, and has coached school hockey\, netball and athletics as well as running a variety of activities including a dissection club and teaching biology. She has completed several marathons\, climbed Kilimanjaro and loves travelling\, with a particular passion for Africa. She and Tom have three children and since moving to Malaysia the family have enjoyed extensive travels in South East Asia. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \nCatherine Stoker\, Founder and Education Consultant\, The Independent Education Consultants \n\n\n \n  \n\n\n \n  \n\n\n \n  \n\n\n \n\n\n\n \nTracey Tweddell\, Head of Boarding\, Bromsgrove International School\, Bangkok Thailand \nHaving completed her PGCE\, Tracey started her teaching career at Oxford College of Further Education as a lecturer in Biology and Environmental Science. Her journey in Boarding then began with a move to Kingham Hill School\, Oxfordshire where Tracey took a position as Houseparent in a Senior Girls boarding house. Tracey’s next move took her to Bromsgrove School UK as a Senior Houseparent before moving to her current role as Head of Boarding at Bromsgrove International School Thailand. She is very passionate about boarding and pastoral care and enjoys engaging with children both inside and outside of the classroom environment. Tracey has been privileged to care for children from all over the globe and gained valuable experience in different contexts and cultures. All three boarding schools have had very different cohorts of students providing different challenges to overcome. Married with four grown up children and one grandchild\, in her spare time Tracey enjoys travelling around Asia\, experiencing the breathtaking scenery and outstanding hospitality on offer. She am also an avid scuba diver and love the ocean. \n\nSu Hayter\, Global Development Manager\, IDP \nSu has worked in international education for over 20 years\, having lived and worked in Europe and Asia.  She has been involved in student placement for both university and boarding schools\, therefore has a deep understanding of what international families require for their child’s schooling choices\, and beyond.  \nSu works for IDP as Global Development Manager for Boarding Schools.  With nearly 200 student placement offices from 35 source countries\, recruiting for 6 destination countries\, IDP’s focus is  primarily on Higher Education with specialised boarding counsellors in a growing number of markets.  Su is able to access on the ground feedback from many different markets in our ever-changing world where it is essential to keep ahead of individual market changes and the impacts they may have on families. \nAs a mother\, she understands the complex decisions parents face\, in particular the cultural\, financial and academic challenges involved in finding a school where their child will be happy and thrive.

He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board. \n\nDavid Walker\, Executive Director\, Boarding and Director BSA/TIOB \nDavid is the BSA Director and joined the BSA group in August 2023. When they leave us\, do we give them as much help and support to manage the transition from the school (where their needs are being met by a dedicated team of professional and caring individuals)\, to the next phase where they must begin fending for themselves?  \nIt is essential we consider the ongoing success and wellbeing of our students\, alongside their academic successes and the impact these will have on life after school.  \nBy the end of the session\, delegates should have a better understanding of what the needs of school leavers are and have developed an initial “Outduction” plan for your school.  \nTraining topics will include: \n\nMeeting students’ needs post school - this session will investigate the needs of students who are leaving school (managing time\, relationships and finances) and the potential pitfalls they might encounter along the way \nThe Six Human Needs model - this session will investigate why students behave the way they do when they leave school and then ways in which staff can put some certainty into an uncertain world for them after school \nDeveloping an “Outduction” programme – this session will involve working in groups to develop an initial school “Outduction” programme to suit the needs of your students and your environment \nContinuation of group work – the training day will finish with a collation of all the points raised in the group work to share\, review and take away \n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nAn increased understanding of the specific needs of senior students leaving the school community\, and why students behave the way they do \n\n\nAn increased understanding of the soft skills required on leaving school \nA draft “Outduction” programme bespoke to your students and school. \n\nBOOK NOW \n\nMark Robinson\, BSA Senior Consultant \nMark has a Product Design Degree from Brunel University and a PGCE. His first post in independent education was as Assistant Master at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham where he held several positions including Assistant Housemaster to a junior boy’s boarding house. After five years he moved on to Ardingly College in West Sussex as a Head of Department and Housemaster to a joint day and boarding house. Mark has been an inspector on boarding inspections\, an Assistant Housemaster to a girls’ boarding house and fully involved in teaching up to ‘A‘ Level. \nIn 2002 Mark gave up teaching to set up Mentor Education Services Ltd\, a business offering education-related consultancy services to the independent sector\, initially training\, interview coaching and professional development but also marketing and pre-inspection to schools both in the independent and maintained sector. \nMark was appointed as Assistant Director of Training for the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2010\, where he continued offering training and consultancy to independent and state schools both in the UK and around the world. In 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral at Collège du Léman in Switzerland\, a large international boarding and day school. After gaining some further\, valuable international experience\, Mark returned to the UK to continue his training and consultancy in the Independent and state school sectors.

For many schools\, recruiting internationally involves working with educational agents to support the promotion of their school overseas and to ensure that student and school community are paired successfully. Relationships with agents can vary. While BSA has launched their Certified Agent Scheme to assure the professional quality of agents to schools\, there are several ways in which schools themselves can improve their working relationships with agents. \nThis two-hour session will go through the process of finding\, building relationships and working with agents\, with best practice recommendations to support the development of strong relationships between school and agent. Speakers include Caroline Nixon\, International Director at BSA Group\, plus three educational agents\, working in major international markets\, to share their recommendations first hand and answer any questions delegates may have. \n\n\n\nTraining topics will include: \n\n\n\n\nIdentifying the need for agents / new agents\n\n\n\nHow to find good agents\n\n\n\nDeveloping positive relationships\n\n\n\nCommission\n\n\n\nWorking with agents\n\n\n\nProducing an agent handbook\n\n\n\nPromoting your school to agents.\n\n\n\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\n\n\n\nIncreased understanding of best practice recommendations for sourcing and building relationships with good agents\n\n\n\nIncreased understanding of how to maintain good relationships with agents\n\n\n\nSuggestions and ideas for how to stand out from the crowd for agents and prospective families.\n\n\n\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \n\nCaroline Nixon\, International and Membership Director\, BSA Group  \nCaroline has worked in international education for over 30 years.  She is International & Membership Director at Boarding Schools’ Association\, and Director of Caroline Nixon Education Ltd.\, as well as a member of the advisory group to the British Government’s All Party Parliamentary Group for international students. \nCaroline set up and runs the BSA educational agent certification scheme and is involved with the BSA’s accreditation of international schools.  Her background is in international education marketing and she also set up and ran a leading international school in the UK.  She has helped several UK schools to establish new overseas branches\, advised an international school opening in the UK\, set up a guardianship agency for an educational group\, and advises schools on international marketing and academic and pastoral provision for their international students. \n\nJohn Zhang\, Founder and Managing Director\, Connexcel (China) \nJohn Zhang has lived in the UK for 20 years. Graduating from the University of Leeds with a master’s degree in Finance\, he was employed by two FTSE 100 international companies as a procurement director before starting his own business. Since establishing Connexcel\, he has devoted himself to helping elite private schools in China and the UK form partnerships through sister schools and cultural exchanges. John has supported schools in China with setting up new curriculums in collaboration with UK partners and training senior education personnel. He also acts a consultant for UK schools seeking advice on expanding their brand within the China. Through his consultancy work\, John has built an extensive network within the Chinese Education Bureau along with schools in the UK and China\, always taking the needs of each school to best allocate resources to support them. \n\n \nNicky Sakpoba\, Founder and Managing Director\, Panoba (Africa and Middle East) \nNicky was educated at an independent girls’ day school in West London\, and continued on to study for her Bachelor’s degree in European Languages at Royal Holloway College\, University of London. \nNicky’s career started in the luxury hotel industry\, where she spent the initial 10 years of her career in management roles in a number of London’s most prestigious five-star hotels. She went on to spend the following 12 years of her career in senior marketing roles within the London commercial property sector. \nAs a mother of two teenage children\, Nicky has been through the school search and selection process herself from prep schools through to sixth form\, and co-founding Panoba in 2014 was a natural extension of her personal experiences. \nNicky has a passion for offering overseas families sound and honest advice\, together with a handholding service to navigate the complexities of the UK education system and the school admissions process. After five years he moved on to Ardingly College in West Sussex as a Head of Department and Housemaster to a joint day and boarding house. Mark has been an inspector on boarding inspections\, an Assistant Housemaster to a girls’ boarding house and fully involved in teaching up to ‘A‘ Level. \nIn 2002 Mark gave up teaching to set up Mentor Education Services Ltd\, a business offering education-related consultancy services to the independent sector\, initially training\, interview coaching and professional development but also marketing and pre-inspection to schools both in the independent and maintained sector. \nMark was appointed as Assistant Director of Training for the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2010\, where he continued offering training and consultancy to independent and state schools both in the UK and around the world. In 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral at Collège du Léman in Switzerland\, a large international boarding and day school. After gaining some further\, valuable international experience\, Mark returned to the UK to continue his training and consultancy in the Independent and state school sectors.

Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board.

The focus of much of her work looked at anxiety and mental health issues in school settings. She left earlier this year to become a Consultant offering support to medical centres and strategic health advice to senior management teams within schools which she does alongside a clinical lead role within the NHS. Melissa is passionate about children’s health and wellbeing and the role we have within school to guide and support children and young people to be happy\, healthy and the best versions of themselves.

Having resided in state\, preparatory and senior school boarding houses since 2014 with her Housemaster husband\, Kate has a unique perspective of boarding life. \n  \n\nChristopher Boobier\, Regional Lead for Middle East and Pakistan\, China and Hong Kong International Education\, Department for Business and Trade   \n  \n\n Bethan Hudson\, Executive Director Specialist Services and Director\, BAISIS\, BSA Group Bethan Waddington joined the BSA team as Training Manager in September 2017. Bethan has worked in two independent boarding schools in the UK and Switzerland\, the latter as Housemistress to 36 pupils. Following her time in Switzerland\, she was a Pastoral Manager for an inner-city state academy before working in the charity sector for Debrett’s running the ‘Debrett’s Foundation’ training programme. In her role\, Bethan plans and manages all Day Seminars\, Conferences\, INSET and Consultancy\, as well as being Director of BAISIS. She believes boarding can be a positive force for young people and in order to fully support their needs staff can never learn too much. As such she is passionate about the CPD BSA delivers to our pastoral communities in the UK and worldwide. \n  \n\n Caroline Nixon\, International and Membership Director\, BSA Group Caroline has worked in international education for over 30 years.  She is International & Membership Director at Boarding Schools’ Association\, and Director of Caroline Nixon Education Ltd.\, as well as a member of the advisory group to the British Government’s All Party Parliamentary Group for international students. Caroline set up and runs the BSA educational agent certification scheme and is involved with the BSA’s accreditation of international schools.  Her background is in international education marketing and she also set up and ran a leading international school in the UK.  She has helped several UK schools to establish new overseas branches\, advised an international school opening in the UK\, set up a guardianship agency for an educational group\, and advises schools on international marketing and academic and pastoral provision for their international students. \n  \n\n Dale Wilkins\, Executive Director Accreditation/Compliance and Scotland/Wales\, BSA Group Dale joined the BSA during Summer 2017 with responsibility for safeguarding and standards\, having previously been a course tutor since 1998. In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. For 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board. \n\nKay Stones\, Engagement Officers for the Study Engagement Team\, Home Office Our team creates and delivers bespoke workshops to educational sponsors and sector bodies. In particular\, our Document Verification workshop has been delivered to over one thousand delegates from across the sector. Prior to joining Westbourne in 2018\, Marie founded\, led and successfully exited a digital agency in the high-value travel sector. Previous roles include Managing Director\, The Big Domain\, Head of Proposition Development at Cendant Corp and commissioned military service in the British Army. \n  \n  \n\nAndrew Berrow\, Deputy Head (operations)\, Blundell’s School  \nAndrew is currently the Deputy Head (operations) at Blundell’s School in Devon. In previous iterations\, he has been the Head of Boarding for five years and a housemaster for thirteen. He has also been a tutor on the BSA Certificate in Boarding Practice course until recently. \nHe has been in charge of the visa operation in the school since the UKBA first set it up. He has noted many changes over that time\, not least in inspection regimes. \n  \n\nHazar El-Chamaa\, Immigration Partner\, Penningtons Manches LLP \nHazar has over eight years’ immigration experience and has been advising education providers on all aspects of compliance\, restructuring and business strategies since the inception of Tier 4. Her experience also includes advising on appeals\, judicial review applications and challenges to Home Office decisions which affect sponsors. Hazar is a frequent speaker on immigration law and gives training on sponsor compliance and prevention of illegal working. She is an elected executive committee member of ILPA (Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association) and has been recommended by the Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession. Penningtons is recognised as a key link between the Home Office and educational institutions in the process of implementing and working through PBS reform.

The last 14 years of his police service was in the Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU). Philip is a qualified AIM3 Assessor of children displaying HSB. Philip also quality assured the Home Office Harmful Sexual Behaviours Support Service (HSBSS) where he oversaw and triaged all the requests for support and advised personally on all the complex cases. He is also qualified as the following: \n\nFamily Liaison Officer (FLO)\nDisaster Victim Identification Officer (DVI)\nSignificant Witness interviewer (Sig Wit)\nEnhanced Cognitive Witness Interviewer\nDomestic Abuse Officer\nPIP Level 2 investigator\nAchieving Best Evidence (ABE- VRI vulnerable and intimidated witness interviewer)\nSpecialist Child Abuse Investigative Development Programme (SCAIDP)\nJoint Investigator – Section 47 Children Act ‘89\n\nPhilip was also seconded to the Training Department for 2 years\, where he received qualifications in training and delivered all these subjects\, including Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB). Philip supports survivors and families who have been victim of all types of abuse\, including technology assisted child sexual abuse (TACSA) through his work as a consultant for the Marie Collins Foundation.
