He spent several years working in hospital medicine until his outlook was profoundly altered by post-graduate training in tropical medicine. Her role also included insulin pumps starts\, and she held nurse-led clinics\, which aimed to provide extra support and motivation for young people struggling to manage their diabetes. Kirsty was actively involved in educating others to support children and YP with Diabetes\, for example providing training days for nurses and other staff in schools. Kirsty’s Masters’ Dissertation Research Project looked into best ways of educating school staff around Diabetes. After her general training Brenda specialised in children’s nursing\, and over the years has worked with adults and children\, in London and Cardiff in both hospital and community settings. Since 2002 she has focussed on paediatric continence\, working as Paediatric Specialist Continence Nurse at the University Hospital of Wales until summer 2018. \nBrenda currently works two days a week as ERIC Nurse\, the first person to take on this role\, originally funded by the Department of Health. She works a further day a week as Paediatric Continence Nurse for Shine: Spina Bifida\, Hydrocephalus Information\, Networking and Equality. \nThe ERIC Nurse post was created to seek ways to improve early intervention into childhood continence problems. Brenda strives to increase awareness of children’s bladder and bowel health\, by designing easy-to-understand information for parents and providing training for health care professionals and early year’s workers. She has produced a generic Children’s Continence Pathway\, which ERIC is promoting as a model of best practice. The ERIC Nurse project won a prestigious Nursing Times Award in 2016\, and has stimulated articles in the nursing press. Brenda has re-written many of the ERIC leaflets\, and is enjoying working at the heart of the charity she supports. \nWhen she is not busy with her regular jobs\, Brenda is much in demand as a freelance trainer and speaker. In her rare moments of spare time she enjoys the company of her three children and her husband John\, a musician and music therapist.

While there\, he continued with his rugby refereeing\, coaching U16s rugby and U15s rowing\, and ran the naval section of the CCF. \nIn 2007\, Mark was appointed Deputy Headmaster and Head of Boarding at Felsted School in Essex\, where he maintained his coaching and teaching roles. It was from there\, in 2010\, that he headed north\, to take on the role of Headmaster at Ashville College in Harrogate\, an HMC co-educational day and boarding school with 870 pupils. He has been an ISI team inspector\, a school governor and Chair of the Boarding School’s Association and is now in his seventh year as Headmaster of Strathallan School. \nMark is married to music teacher Caroline\, and has two sons\, both now at university. In his spare time\, he enjoys wild camping in the Scottish islands and walking in the hills.

He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He’s lived\, and taught English in a variety of countries in Asia and Europe. \nHe’s had an abiding interest in ESP and English for Academic purposes and presently teach mainly IGCSE and IELTS candidates in the age range of 14-18. He is currently working on an outreach programme with Canterbury Christchurch University for international 6th formers to prepare them for undergraduate studies. \nHe has a strong interest in vocabulary teaching\, and while he’s certainly no expert\, he hopes that other teachers can learn from his mistakes! Over the last few years\, teachers of EAL at our school have been engaging with and supporting our colleagues in other departments much more to help our EAL students settle in\, and hopefully thrive. It was whilst working as an Integrated Offender Manager (IOM) that she developed a greater understanding of the issues of exploitation\, serious youth violence and trauma. \nNikki recognised that as much as she had a passion for policing\, she wanted to use the knowledge she had acquired to support children and young people\, rather than as she described ” be complicit in punishing them for their abuse.” This resulted in her taking the brave step of leaving a job she thought she would do for life. \nThe next step for Nikki was to work in the field of substance misuse\, where she managed and developed a young person’s substance misuse service in Warwickshire. She led the development of Hidden Harm Pathways\, ensuring that children of parents dependent on substances were no longer invisible and in receipt of the support they needed. This work was recognised by the CQC as an exemplar of outstanding and innovative practice that should be replicated nationally. \nIn May 2017\, Nikki joined the CQC as a Children’s services inspector where she led and contributed to a range of National Review processes including LA SEND inspections\, JTAI’s and Children Looked After and Safeguarding (CLAS) reviews. She also managed a portfolio of children’s homes\, supporting them to meet the complex needs of children in a way that was responsive and trauma informed. She remains a bank Children’s Services Inspector today. (CSI) \nIn 2020\, in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic\, Nikki launched Safer Together. “For me\, the pandemic was a moment of clarity\, a moment where I reflected on what I learnt as a CSI and a moment where I thought I want to share the learning to support fatigued practitioners and systems to navigate the complexities of the world our children live in\, to come together\, work together to make society safer.” \nIn addition to heading Safer Together\, Nikki is also an accredited SILP reviewer and author of Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs)\, Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPRs). She is also a researcher\, and a visiting lecturer of criminology and psychology. \nIn the little spare time she has\, she fills her cup by spending as much time with her two boys\, Joe and Flynn\, the two not so little people who inspire her every day to be better and do better so that their world\, and the world for their children is a safer\, fairer and a more compassionate place.

In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board.

He holds extensive experience tackling a wide range of complex radicalisation cases in various roles\, including as a Social Worker within Children’s Services\, as Channel Coordinator within Prevent and as the Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within an NHS mental health Trust. Furthermore\, Thomas is a PhD candidate in Social Work and Social Care investigating the radicalisation of young men and the role of masculinity in violent extremism. \nThomas is a qualified Social Worker with a background in Children’s services and holds years of experience in multi-agency safeguarding work. His work spans across safeguarding children and adults from a range of harms\, including domestic abuse\, sexual exploitation\, criminal exploitation\, county lines\, modern slavery and radicalisation. Thomas is passionate about supporting professionals to respond to safeguarding concerns\, and is using his PhD research to build a practical tool to support social workers to assess and safeguard males whom are vulnerable to radicalisation. \nIn his current role as Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT)\, Thomas provides regular trainings to staff and teams across the Trust\, including Prevent Awareness\, Workshop to Raise Awareness on Prevent (WRAP)\, and Safeguarding Adults. Thomas also offers regular expert consultations to support staff to respond to complex radicalisation concerns across the Trust\, and is the SPFT representative in the Prevent’s Channel Panels across Sussex that provide a multi-agency approach to safeguarding those assessed as vulnerable to radicalisation. Moreover\, Thomas contributes to the development and updating of Policy within SPFT to structurally respond to emerging safeguarding concerns regarding radicalisation. \nOver the years\, Thomas has gathered substantial knowledge and practical expertise on the multi-faceted dynamics of safeguarding and radicalisation. His unique position of both working in and researching on this issue provides unique insights into this complex area of safeguarding. Thomas is available to deliver Prevent training to a range of organisations\, which will cover the key features of Prevent Awareness and Prevent WRAP\, including CONTEST\, the statutory duty under Counter Terrorism Security Act 2015 known as the ‘Prevent Duty’\, Vulnerabilities to Radicalisation\, Extremist Ideology and groups\, Current Threat Level\, and the Channel Panel process. Thomas will provide an opportunity to have a nuanced and critical discussion about this important and complex area of safeguarding .
