The session will also explore practical ways to move beyond a one-month focus\, encouraging a year-round commitment to diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nThe origins\, aims\, and evolution of Black History Month\nWhat meaningful Black History engagement should look like in schools and boarding houses\nHighlighting significant Black figures and untold stories\nRecommended resources and activity ideas for use in the boarding setting\nStrategies for going beyond Black History Month to embed representation and awareness year-round\nApproaches to integrating Black history into the curriculum and school culture\n\nLearning outcomes \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nDemonstrate a clear understanding of the origins and purpose of Black History Month\nApply a range of ideas and strategies to promote Black History Month within boarding houses and the wider school environment\nIdentify ways to embed Black history meaningfully into the curriculum and daily practice\nSupport young people in developing greater cultural awareness\, empathy\, and appreciation of diverse histories\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \nRebekah Hayward \nRebekah is an experienced Equity\, Diversity and Inclusion consultant who has been working with IELA since April 2023 supporting\, organisations and schools. She holds a Masters in Education: International Development and Social Justice and a CMI Level 7 Qualification in Strategic Approaches to EDI. She is the Co-Founder of ā€˜Increasing Black Representationā€™ a mentoring scheme for students and the Founder ofĀ Ā ā€˜The Inclusion Editā€™ an Inclusion consultancy.Ā Ā In her previous roles\, Rebekah has worked in Ed Tech leading on EDI and business strategy. She has also worked with IESE leading EDI projects and developing EDI resources. Rebekah is a qualified Primary School Teacher with much experience as an EDI lead creating diverse curriculum content for schools\, developing policy and creating meaningful\, lasting change.
