Drawing from the latest inspection outcomes\, the session will explore key compliance challenges around safeguarding\, pupil safety\, fire precautions\, and staff recruitment\, as well as the knock-on effects on the management and development of boarding provision. His career includes leadership roles in senior and prep school settings across the UK and Africa\, complemented by service as a prep school governor and trustee of a multi-academy trust. David was previously Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-educational independent school\, where he oversaw student welfare. His background in safeguarding\, boarding leadership\, and governance gives him a broad perspective on the sector\, enabling him to support schools. \n\nDale Wilkins FTIOB\, Executive Director\, BSA Group Scotland/Wales and Accredited/Compliance\nDale joined the BSA in 2017 to lead safeguarding\, inspection\, and compliance across the UK\, building on his experience as a course tutor since 1998. He works closely with ISI\, Ofsted\, and the DfE\, while also overseeing the Group’s work in Scotland and Wales. A trainer and consultant for BSA and SACPA\, he is Vice Chair of SAFCAB. Dale previously spent 31 years as a boarding practitioner\, including roles as Housemaster and Deputy Head at Old Swinford Hospital. Beyond education\, he trains for the Methodist Church\, is a charity trustee\, chairs a performing arts organisation\, and volunteers widely.

When implemented effectively\, it leads to increased engagement\, stronger relationships\, and measurable school improvement. \nThis session will covers the benefits of involving students in decision-making\, practical considerations for organising pupil voice initiatives\, and techniques to promote authentic and meaningful pupil voice. \nIt will also support schools in meeting the expectations outlined in the UK National Minimum Standards (NMS)\, particularly those relating to pupil voice and boarder participation in decision-making. \nLearning outcomes: \n\nUnderstand the value of student participation in school decision-making\nBe equipped to plan and facilitate pupil voice activities\nLearn strategies to ensure pupil voice is meaningful and sustained\nGain confidence in embedding pupil feedback into school development processes.\n\nBOOK NOW \n\n  \n \nDale Wilkins\, Executive Director\, Scotland/Wales and Accredited/Compliance \nDale joined the BSA during Summer 2017 with responsibility for safeguarding and standards\, having previously been a course tutor since 1998.  Dale leads on all safeguarding\, inspection and compliance matters for BSA Group\, including liaising with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE in England\, and leading on the group’s work in Scotland and Wales. He trains and delivers consultancy extensively for BSA and SACPA and is Vice Chair of the Group’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Advisory Board (SAFCAB). \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board\, is a safeguarding trainer for the Methodist Church\, is a trustee of the National Youth String Orchestra and chair of a small performing arts charity. He also holds volunteer roles in sport and in the Scout Association.
