DESCRIPTION:🏷️ From £175\n🎧 Boarding house practitioners\n📍 Online\n✅ Included in BSA CPD Pass \n\nCourse outline: \nThis day seminar will highlight the common issues that older teenagers face and look at how to support them as they progress towards leaving school. Managing the increase in choices boarders will have to make as they approach the significant transition towards life after school\, they may find themselves under increasing pressure and in need of support from those around them. This course is designed to help boarding staff grow in confidence in their role and promote the knowledge and skills required to meet the needs of senior boarders. \nOlder teenagers face an increasingly diverse set of pressures and many of them need additional support. Certainly\, they need to feel they are in a safe environment where they can discuss concerns and build their resilience and independence. Boarding staff have a role in helping young people to make good choices around the risks they face and\, therefore\, they need to have an understanding of the issues teenagers may encounter. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nCommon issues for the older teen – academic/professional (parental and peer pressure\, success\, managing transition to adulthood\, preparing for life after school)\nCommon issues for the older teen – personal/social (relationships\, social media and online safety\, drugs/alcohol\, risk taking and dangerous behaviours)\nSupporting teenagers – promoting resilience\, self-worth and making good choices\nCase studies and group discussion.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nImproved understanding of the common issues for older teens\nIncreased confidence in supporting older teens.\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \n \nGaelle Sullivan\, Director of Research\, Inclusion and IELA \nGaelle is Director of Research\, Inclusion and IELA and joined the BSA in January 2023. She is an experienced senior leader and has worked in a range of state and independent schools. She is a qualified SENCO and holds a Masters Degree in Inclusive Education. Prior to joining the BSA\, Gaelle was Deputy Head Pastoral\, DSL and Head of Boarding at an all-girls independent school in the South-East.
