He joined us from Strode’s College where he was Head of the Creative Arts Faculty since 2009. \nAside from his role as Assistant Principal\, Gareth currently teaches Film. He has also taught Media A Level and Film Studies GCSE. Gareth is an examiner and moderator for EDUQAS. Beyond these academic commitments\, Gareth is involved in several CCA’s at DLD College including Community Projects\, Run Club and the Film Society. \nIn his free time Gareth is an avid ‘very’ amateur surfer and enjoys spending time on the beach. Gareth is a keen member of the community where he lives and was elected as District Councillor for Loxwood Ward (Chichester) in May 2019 and again in May 2023. He is also an award-winning community volunteer and was awarded a Community Builder Award by the Mayor of Newham which recognised his contribution to the local community he once lived in and continues to support. This virtual day seminar is aimed both at those who are familiar with the process and those completely new to it. The day focuses on the process itself\, preparation for forthcoming inspection visits\, and relevant updates on new legislation that could impact an inspection result. \nThroughout the session\, information and actions will refer to the National Minimum Standards 2022\, as well as referencing appropriate updates to other guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025. \nThere will be specific breakout sessions during the day to focus on ISI or Ofsted as appropriate. Boarding staff have a role in helping young people to make good choices around the risks they face and\, therefore\, they need to have an understanding of the issues teenagers may encounter. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nCommon issues for the older teen – academic/professional (parental and peer pressure\, success\, managing transition to adulthood\, preparing for life after school)\nCommon issues for the older teen – personal/social (relationships\, social media and online safety\, drugs/alcohol\, risk taking and dangerous behaviours)\nSupporting teenagers – promoting resilience\, self-worth and making good choices\nCase studies and group discussion.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nImproved understanding of the common issues for older teens\nIncreased confidence in supporting older teens.\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \n \nTom Hadcroft : Headteacher\, Berkhamsted Boys School \nTom Hadcroft is currently serving as a Deputy School Director at Aiglon College in Switzerland (since April 2025). His primary focus in this role is on boarding\, wellbeing and safeguarding. \nPrior to this appointment\, he was the Headmaster of Berkhamsted Boys School in the UK\, and before that\, the Senior Deputy Head at DLD College London\, focusing on pastoral and boarding issues. Hadcroft’s expertise extends to being an International School Accreditor for CIS and a course tutor for the Boarding Schools’ Association. He is also a Mental Health First Aid Youth instructor and holds an MEd in Educational Leadership. \n  \n

From recognising how children and young people grieve and the physiological impact of grief\, to supporting young children in coping with a return to ‘normal’ activities after suffering a loss\, this seminar will equip delegates with a clearer understanding of how to help. \nThe focus will be on the main school age range of 8-18 years but may go beyond these years to account for developmental variations. He holds Honours degrees in Education and Psychology from the University of Exeter and the University of South Africa respectively. Tim was the conference lead at researchED Pretoria\, the inaugural researchED conference in South Africa\, and then programme manager for the follow up event in Cape Town. Tim has also served on the Global Advisory Board of the University of St Andrews\, Scotland. \nTim enjoys writing and is the author of the blog\, ‘There’s a ‘Hadeda in my Garden’\, which considers educational issues\, boarding school life\, and teen well-being. He has written articles for Independent Education in South Africa and the Guardian Teachers network in the UK. He also featured on IBSC’s Exploring Boys’ Education Podcast on the pastoral care of boys.
