DESCRIPTION:🏷️ From £135\n🎧 Boarding staff\, medical staff\, Head of Boarding\, Deputy Head\, mental health leads\n📍 Online \n\nCourse outline: \nEating disorders are wide-ranging and complicated\, and remain high on the list of risk areas in mental health care and provision\, especially for young people. Eating disorders are a complex mental illness with a high mortality rate\, not only down to the eating disorder and malnutrition\, but also suicide. For staff working with young people\, having the confidence to offer support\, and open up conversations about eating disorders can be nerve-wracking. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nDisordered Eating vs an eating disorder?\nRecognising early signs of disordered eating and eating disorders in students\nIdentifying high risk students\nHow to tackle disordered eating in schools?\nHow to approach a student of concern?\nLanguage to use around food and exercise (Do’s and Don’ts)\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nUnderstand the difference between eating disorders and disordered eating\nImproved confidence in approaching people you may think are displaying signs of needing early intervention\nSigns and symptoms of eating disorders\nDo’s and don’ts when it comes to supporting people with eating disorders\nUse of language around food and exercise\nUnderstanding neurodiversity and eating habits\nCultural differences for international students\nSeeking appropriate clinical intervention and signposting to support\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \nJenny Tomei\, Founder. JenUp \nJenny Tomei is a qualified Nutritional and Eating Disorder Therapist\, Personal Trainer\, and Public Speaker. She has delivered awareness talks on eating disorders for the Metropolitan Police\, Lloyds Pharmacy\, and the Bank of England. She has also been a keynote speaker at international and UK schools. \nHer work includes speaking to local communities and schools about her recovery journey from anorexia\, alongside her recent work with JenUp. JenUp is a non-profit organisation based around early intervention and prevention of eating disorders. She provides students\, parents\, and teachers with various types of workshops on eating disorder awareness\, disordered eating\, body image\, nutrition\, and how to support someone in need. The organisation is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and Smile of Hope Charity.

Delegates will also gain practical recommendations for developing their role\, working effectively with senior leaders\, and navigating the current landscape in the boarding sector. \nA Q&A session will give attendees the opportunity to raise questions and discuss current issues. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nThe roles and responsibilities of Governors in boarding schools\nWhat collective governance looks like in practice\nDeveloping the role of the Governor in a boarding context\nUnderstanding the boarding school landscape\nBuilding strong relationships and strategic alignment with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)\n\nLearning outcomes: \nBy the end of the session\, participants will: \n\nGain a clearer understanding of the responsibilities and expectations of Governors in boarding schools\nIncrease confidence in contributing to board discussions and questioning strategic decisions\nBe equipped with best practice recommendations for demonstrating effective collective governance\nUnderstand how to work collaboratively with SLT to support the strategic and pastoral development of the school\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: Alex Mitchell Head of Consultancy\, AGBIS \nAlex Mitchell’s career spans 35 years in the maintained and\, predominantly\, independent sector including day\, boarding\, single sex\, co-ed\, tied and standalone schools. After many years as a Director of Music in several schools\, including Haberdashers’ Girls’ School in Elstree and the Loughborough Foundation Schools in the East Midlands\, he became Headmaster of Holmwood House in Colchester\, Essex in 2009. During that time\, Alex was Chairman of the IAPS East Anglia district. Since 2002\, Alex has built up 22 years’ experience as an ISI inspector and\, since 2019\, has been a Reporting Inspector for UK and overseas inspections. Until recently\, Alex was a governor of an independent school in Hertfordshire and has undertaken reviews of governance for AGBIS in recent years. Alex now leads the AGBIS International programme as well as coordinating consultancy services for both UK and international member schools.
