DESCRIPTION:Date: June 24\, 2024\nTime: 10:30 – 15:30\nCost: BSA Full Member – £155\, BSA Affiliate Member – £230\, Non-member – £310\nAudience: Boarding staff\, Head of Boarding\, Deputy Head\, Mental health leads working with senior boarders\nPlatform: Zoom (online) – Day Seminar\n\n\nCourse outline \nThis is a course for all staff working in the education setting to help improve understanding and responses to self-harm presentations. A topic which is often misunderstood\, highly stigmatised and hidden is delivered in a relatable manner. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nBetter understanding of self-harm (definition / triggers / functions / statistics)\nRelationship between self-harm and suicide\nSigns and indicators of self-harm\nBroaching suspected self-harm\nBest practice response to disclosures (alternative strategies / language use / general response)\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nUnderstand what self-harm behaviours are and what can lead to them\nUnderstand the importance of asking about suicidal thoughts when presented with self-harm\nHave improved confidence in broaching and responding to disclosures\, appreciating the importance of appropriate use of language\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \nLisa Thomson\, Charlie Waller Trust \nLisa has had a long career in a variety of Mental Health settings within the NHS. She originally trained as a Mental Health Nurse in 1990 and subsequently worked in inpatient and community settings with adults\, children\, young people and their families. She completed a Masters in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and a post graduate diploma in Evidence Based Practice leading to qualifying as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. Most of her career has been spent working directly with children\, young people and families in NHS CAMHS and she now works part time in independent clinical practice. In addition\, she works as a freelance trainer for the Charlie Waller Trust delivering training on Mental Health Issues to schools\, primary care and a wide variety of organisations working with children and young people. As part of a nonprofit organisation called Brighter Futures Together\, she trains NHS CAMHS clinicians to deliver evidence based training to the children’s workforce across the Thames Valley and the South of England.
