SUMMARY:"Outduction" - preparing students for life after school
DESCRIPTION:Date: May 02\, 2025\nTime: 10:30 – 15:30\nCost: BSA Full Member – £175\, BSA Affiliate Member – £ 250\, Non-member – £350\nAudience: Deputy Head Pastoral\, Head of Boarding\, Boarding staff\, all staff working with senior pupils\nPlatform: Zoom (online) – seminar\n\n\nCourse outline: \nThis seminar will help boarding and academic staff understand the concerns senior students will have when they leave school and\, building on this understanding\, develop a final year programme to support these students in having the best possible life experience when they leave to face their futures.  \nWhen we induct students into our schools\, we give them a great deal of help and support to settle in and make the best of their time with us. When they leave us\, do we give them as much help and support to manage the transition from the school (where their needs are being met by a dedicated team of professional and caring individuals)\, to the next phase where they must begin fending for themselves?  \nIt is essential we consider the ongoing success and wellbeing of our students\, alongside their academic successes and the impact these will have on life after school.  \nBy the end of the session\, delegates should have a better understanding of what the needs of school leavers are\, and have developed an initial “Outduction” plan for your school  \nTraining topics will include:  \n\nMeeting students’ needs post school – this session will investigate the needs of students who are leaving school (managing time\, relationships and finances) and the potential pitfalls they might encounter along the way \nThe Six Human Needs model – this session will investigate why students behave the way they do when they leave school and then ways in which staff can put some certainty into an uncertain world for them after school \nDeveloping an “Outduction” programme – this session will involve working in groups to develop an initial school “Outduction” programme to suit the needs of your students and your environment \nContinuation of group work – the training day will finish with a collation of all the points raised in the group work to share\, review and take away \n\nLearning outcomes:   \n\nAn increased understanding of the specific needs of senior students leaving the school community\, and why students behave the way they do \nAn increased understanding of the soft skills required on leaving school \nA draft “Outduction” programme bespoke to your students and school. \n\nBOOK NOW \n\nMark Robinson\, BSA Senior Consultant \nMark has a Product Design Degree from Brunel University and a PGCE. His first post in independent education was as Assistant Master at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham where he held several positions including Assistant Housemaster to a junior boy’s boarding house. SUMMARY:SACPA/BSA – Working with Affluent Families: when neglect becomes a concern
DESCRIPTION:Date: May 08\, 2025\nTime: 10:00 – 12:00\nCost: SACPA/BSA Member Rate: £135\, Non-member Rate: £270*\nAudience: Trustees\, Governors\, and Leaders with oversight of safeguarding. Colleagues in education\, social care\, youth services\, early help\, charity and third sector organisations with an interest and responsibility for safeguarding. Anyone looking to further develop their knowledge and understanding in this specific area of safeguarding\nPlatform: Zoom (online) – seminar\n\n\nCourse Outline: \nThe phrase ‘affluent neglect’ presents something of a perceived oxymoron. If there is affluence\, how can there also be neglect? \nSadly\, affluent neglect is a real issue and concern\, and can be particularly challenging to identify and manage where signs and indicators may look different to those in under-resourced families. \nThe power relations between safeguarding practitioners and parents can provide an additional layer of complexity where there is resistance to intervention and support\, and the signs of neglect can often be emotional/mental rather than physical. \nThis interactive seminar that also involves delegates in group work and reflective practice draws on messages from research and practical application to explore affluent neglect and working with affluent parents. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nWhat is affluent neglect?\nIdentification and support\nUnderstanding and working with the power relations between safeguarding practitioner and affluent parents/carers\nCase study example for group-work and reflective practice.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nDevelop an increased understanding of what affluent neglect is\, and how to spot it\nConsider strategies to provide support\nUnpick the power relations between safeguarding practitioner and affluent parents that potentially impact safeguarding effective safeguarding practice\nReview the practical application of identification\, and implementation of strategies for managing affluent neglect through case study review.\n\nBOOK NOW \n\n
