DESCRIPTION:🏷️ From £90\n🎧 Safeguarding and pastoral leads\n📍 Online\n🎥 Watch live or on catch up\n✅ Included in BSA CPD Pass \n\nCourse outline: \nThis session led by Karl Hopwood\, Online safety expert\, will look at the latest guidance\, trends and headlines in online safety. It will consider the current position of the government on social media bans and what this means for children and young people and those who care for them and work with them as well as highlighting online safety aspects of the latest statutory guidance. \n\n\n\nTraining topics will include: \n\nProvide an overview of the latest guidance\, trends and headlines in online safety \nSignpost useful sites and resources to inform and educate about online safety \nReview strategies for meaningful engagement with children and young people as they navigate the online world \nSignpost links to support risk assessment\, intervention and education sessions with young people who are particularly vulnerable online. \n\n\nLearning outcomes:\n\nDelegates will consider how to talk to children and young people about the current online safety landscape in a meaningful way\nDelegates will have a greater understanding of key guidance\, legislation and trends\, including considerations around AI\, smart glasses and SOE (sadistic online exploitation)\nDelegates will be signposted to the latest useful sites and resources to inform and educate about online safety and managing online life.\n\n\n\nBOOK NOW \nThis event will be held jointly with: \n \n  \n  \n  \n\nSpeaker: \nKarl Hopwood\, Online safety expert \nKarl is an independent online safety expert. He is a member of UKCIS (UK Council for Internet Safety) and sits on the UKCIS evidence group\, education working group and the early warning group as well as on the advisory board for the UK Safer Internet Centre. He also sits on the Roblox trust and safety board where he represents the Insafe network. He was part of an expert steering group with TikTok looking at harmful and dangerous online challenges and regularly contributes to content for Internet Matters\, recently delivering their online safety training for those working with children in care commissioned by Ofcom. \nKarl has worked for a number of key players in the UK and abroad including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre)\, BECTA (British Educational and Communications Technology Agency)\, the European Commission\, the UN and several Local Authorities within the UK and in Europe. \nAs an ex primary headteacher\, he continues to work closely in schools across Europe with children\, young people\, parents\, teachers and governors to develop safer online behaviours and the promotion of digital literacy. Karl has been employed for the last 19 years as an in-house consultant for INSAFE which is the coordinating node of the EU Better Internet for Kids programme where he is responsible for the coordination of safer internet helplines and awareness centres across Europe. Karl was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Marie Collins Foundation for 7 years\, a charity which supports young people who have been sexually abused and exploited online and is now Chair of the board of trustees of Childnet international and Chair of the executive committee of SACPA (Safeguarding and Child Protection Association). Karl has also worked with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and chaired the working group to re-write their Child Online Protection Guidance.
