His career includes leadership roles in both senior and prep school settings\, complemented by service as a prep school governor and trustee of a multi-academy trust. Before joining the BSA\, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-educational independent school in the South-East\, where he oversaw student welfare and pastoral care. His extensive background in safeguarding\, boarding leadership\, and governance gives him a broad perspective on the sector\, enabling him to support schools in delivering outstanding pastoral provision. \n\nDale Wilkins\, MA (Ed)\, FTIOB\, Executive Director\,  BSA Group Scotland/Wales and Accredited/Compliance  \nDale Wilkins joined the BSA in 2017 to lead safeguarding\, inspection\, and compliance across the UK\, building on his experience as a course tutor since 1998. He works closely with ISI\, Ofsted\, and the DfE\, while also overseeing the Group’s work in Scotland and Wales. A trainer and consultant for BSA and SACPA\, he is Vice Chair of SAFCAB. Dale previously spent 31 years as a boarding practitioner\, including roles as Housemaster and Deputy Head at Old Swinford Hospital. Beyond education\, he trains for the Methodist Church\, is a charity trustee\, chairs a performing arts organisation\, and volunteers widely. \n\nAileen Kane\, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer\, BSA Group \nAileen Kane is a marketing and communications strategist with extensive experience in education\, specialising in brand positioning\, admissions\, and audience engagement. As Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer at BSA Group\, she leads strategic marketing\, admissions support\, and business development to help schools attract and retain boarding students. She is passionate about equipping schools with the tools to strengthen their                                      marketing and admissions impact. \n\nDr Lindsay Browning\, CEO\, Trouble Sleeping \nDr Lindsay Browning is a chartered psychologist\, neuroscientist\, and renowned sleep expert. She earned a master’s in neuroscience and a doctorate (DPhil) in insomnia from the University of Oxford\, with her thesis exploring the connection between worry\, rumination\, and sleeplessness. Founder of Trouble Sleeping in 2006\, she provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to individuals and organisations\, including the NHS\, police\, airlines\, and charities. Dr Browning is also a bestselling author of Navigating Sleeplessness and a frequent media commentator on sleep issues. \n  \n\nGavin Horgan\, Head\, Millfield School \nGavin Horgan became Headmaster of Millfield in September 2018. Gavin was previously Headmaster of Worksop College in Nottinghamshire since 2012\, where he delivered academic turnaround aligned with a substantial building programme and whole school restructure.\nPrior to Worksop College\, Gavin’s earlier career included working internationally in schools in Sri Lanka and Argentina\, before returning to the UK in 2009 as Deputy Head of The Glasgow Academy\, an independent co-educational school with 1300 pupils. Gavin also has extensive experience of the state sector at schools in Hampshire and Lambeth. \n\nDan Thornburn\, Head\, Millfield Prep \nDan joined Millfield Prep in 2022 from Edgeborough School in Surrey\, where he has was head since 2017. He was previously head of St Petroc’s\, North Cornwall\, and his earlier teaching career included spells at Lockers Park and Chafyn Grove. Educated at Wrekin College\, Thornburn read history at Exeter University whilst playing rugby for the Exeter Chiefs 2nds. Over the last 20 years  approx. 3000 House Tutors\, Matrons\, Support Staff\, School Nurses\, Assistants\, House Parents and HsMs have completed this Award. \n\nPart 1: BSA Certificate in Boarding Practice – Pastoral Care\n\nand one of these: \n\nPart 2: BSA Advanced Certificate in Boarding Practice – Boarding Management\nPart 2: BSA Advanced Certificate in Boarding Practice for School Nurses\nPart 2: BSA Certificate in Boarding Practice – Pupil Support and Welfare\nPart 2: BSA Advanced Certificate in Boarding Practice – International Students\n\nWhat does this course cover? \nThis course is taken by both graduate teaching and non-graduate house staff\, including matrons\, assistant house staff and house parents\, with responsibility for the care and welfare of boarding pupils. Group discussion is a particularly important aspect of this module\, enabling you to look at the theory in the light of your own practical experience.
