Delegates will review the legal context\, signs and indicators\, response and referral to the challenge of radicalisation.  \nTraining topics will include: \n\nWhat is radicalisation and the Prevent duty \nRecognising individuals who are vulnerable to radicalisation \nManaging disclosure and relevant referral to Channel for Prevent.  \n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nGet a clearer understanding of their role & responsibilities towards your Prevent duty \nRecognise and identify the vulnerabilities to being drawn into radicalisation and extremism \nLearn what to do if there are concerns that an individual is at risk of radicalisation \nBe able to handle a disclosure effectively and raise these concerns appropriately \nUnderstand the referral process for Prevent and the Channel Panel process\n\nBOOK NOW \nThis event will be held jointly with: \n \n  \n  \n  \n\nSpeaker: \nTom Robinson \nThomas Robinson is an experienced safeguarding expert\, with a specialism in radicalisation. He holds extensive experience tackling a wide range of complex radicalisation cases in various roles\, including as a Social Worker within Children’s Services\, as Channel Coordinator within Prevent and as the Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within an NHS mental health Trust. Furthermore\, Thomas is a PhD candidate in Social Work and Social Care investigating the radicalisation of young men and the role of masculinity in violent extremism. \nThomas is a qualified Social Worker with a background in Children’s services and holds years of experience in multi-agency safeguarding work. His work spans across safeguarding children and adults from a range of harms\, including domestic abuse\, sexual exploitation\, criminal exploitation\, county lines\, modern slavery and radicalisation. Thomas is passionate about supporting professionals to respond to safeguarding concerns\, and is using his PhD research to build a practical tool to support social workers to assess and safeguard males whom are vulnerable to radicalisation. \nIn his current role as Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT)\, Thomas provides regular trainings to staff and teams across the Trust\, including Prevent Awareness\, Workshop to Raise Awareness on Prevent (WRAP)\, and Safeguarding Adults. Thomas also offers regular expert consultations to support staff to respond to complex radicalisation concerns across the Trust\, and is the SPFT representative in the Prevent’s Channel Panels across Sussex that provide a multi-agency approach to safeguarding those assessed as vulnerable to radicalisation. Moreover\, Thomas contributes to the development and updating of Policy within SPFT to structurally respond to emerging safeguarding concerns regarding radicalisation. \nOver the years\, Thomas has gathered substantial knowledge and practical expertise on the multi-faceted dynamics of safeguarding and radicalisation. His unique position of both working in and researching on this issue provides unique insights into this complex area of safeguarding. Thomas is available to deliver Prevent training to a range of organisations\, which will cover the key features of Prevent Awareness and Prevent WRAP\, including CONTEST\, the statutory duty under Counter Terrorism Security Act 2015 known as the ‘Prevent Duty’\, Vulnerabilities to Radicalisation\, Extremist Ideology and groups\, Current Threat Level\, and the Channel Panel process. Thomas will provide an opportunity to have a nuanced and critical discussion about this important and complex area of safeguarding.

With a focus on equipping staff to confidently self-audit and exceed minimum standards\, the session offers a deeper dive into quality assurance practices in boarding care. \nIdeal for those newly appointed to leadership roles in boarding\, the training is also highly relevant for experienced staff wishing to refresh their knowledge and ensure their practice remains up to date and aligned with current expectations. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nUnderstanding the various inspectorates and standards governing boarding provision\nConducting an internal assessment of your boarding environment\nEstablishing realistic and aspirational benchmarks for quality care\nLeading and managing change effectively\nDefining and recognising excellent practice in boarding\n\nLearning outcomes: \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify key compliance requirements relevant to their boarding house(s)\nRecognise the components of outstanding practice in boarding care\nAccess relevant sources of information and feedback to inform improvement\nConfidently carry out self-audits and implement changes where needed\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeakers: \nDavid Walker FTIOB\, Executive Director\, Boarding and Director\, BSA/TIOB \nDavid joined BSA Group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa\, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA\, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East. \n\n \nDale Wilkins\, Executive Director\, Scotland/Wales and Accredited/Compliance \nDale joined the BSA during Summer 2017 with responsibility for safeguarding and standards\, having previously been a course tutor since 1998.  Dale leads on all safeguarding\, inspection and compliance matters for BSA Group\, including liaising with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE in England\, and leading on the group’s work in Scotland and Wales. He trains and delivers consultancy extensively for BSA and SACPA and is Vice Chair of the Group’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Advisory Board (SAFCAB). \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board\, is a safeguarding trainer for the Methodist Church\, is a trustee of the National Youth String Orchestra and chair of a small performing arts charity. He also holds volunteer roles in sport and in the Scout Association.
