DESCRIPTION:Date: December 09\, 2024\nTime: 10:30 – 15:30\nCost: BSA Full Member – £175\, BSA Affiliate Member – £250 \, Non-member – £350\nAudience: Deputy head\, Head of Boarding\, House staff\, Pastoral and Wellbeing staff\, Medical staff\nPlatform: Zoom (online)\n\n\nCourse outline: \nThis seminar supports pastoral staff working primarily with teenage boys\, who want to increase their understanding of how best to support them through their teenage years.  \nThe day will be presented by Dr Jody Walshe\, an educational and child psychologist who will explain the physiological impact of adolescence on teenage boys\, including physical and emotional development. Practical recommendations for working with and supporting young men will also be discussed.  \nTraining topics will include: \n\nAdolescent brain development \nExploring adolescence including physical and emotional development \nKey areas of relevance including social cognition\, risk taking and identity \nPractical skills and evidence-based approaches for working with young people. \n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nAn understanding of adolescent brain development \nAn understanding of the impact of adolescent brain development on social\, emotional and physical development \nResources\, tools\, and strategies for use in school or a support context \n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \nDr Jody Walshe\, Educational and Child Psychologist\nDr Jody Walshe is an Educational and Child Psychologist working in London borough. Jody completed her doctorate at the University of East London. She is also a Consultant Psychologist providing consultations for foster carers and supervising social workers. She is a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council. Before commencing her training\, Jody worked as a teacher\, learning support assistant and tutor with young people from 5-19. The focus of much of her work looked at anxiety and mental health issues in school settings. Her doctoral research explored the experiences\, perceptions and training needs of secondary school staff working with self-harm.
