DESCRIPTION:Date: November 21\, 2024\nTime: 09:30 – 16:30\nCost: SACPA Member Rate: £235\, Non-member Rate: £470*\nAudience: Level 3 certificate training for Educational Guardians\, DSL’s\, DDSLs\nPlatform: Zoom (online) – certificate\n\n\nCourse outline:  \nThis one-day DSL training has been prepared specifically for educational guardians in their role of DSL but is also suitable for other individuals responsible for safeguarding in their business. The programme aims to develop the knowledge\, skills and understanding required to fulfil their roles and responsibilities with integrity and to a high standard.  \nThe day will ensure that practitioners carrying out DSL and safeguarding lead roles as part of their business are:  \n\naware of relevant statutory requirements \naware of the latest safeguarding concerns \nappropriately responding to concerns\, making reports or referrals \nworking with a range of statutory and non-statutory support agencies including schools. \n\nTraining topics will include: \n\nUnderstanding the role of the Educational Guardian as DSL and the role of DSLs and safeguarding leads in education and other agencies\nThe legislative framework\, statutory and regulatory compliance\nUnderstanding the threshold of child protection including a deeper understanding of key categories of abuse and contemporary safeguarding issues such as contextual safeguarding and digital safeguarding\nSpecific safeguarding concerns\, including:\nFemale Genital Mutilation\nForced Marriage\nChild Sexual Exploitation\, Criminal Exploitation and Trafficking\nTackling extremism\nChild-on-child abuse\nEmotional wellbeing\nSafeguarding files and accurate recordings\nLearning the lessons from Serious Case Reviews\nContributing to statutory and early help safeguarding meetings\nProfessional code of conduct and Position of Trust\, allegations and low-level-concerns\nEscalation of safeguarding concerns and whistleblowing.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nAttendees will be taught through a range of methods including presentation and scenario / case study based group work and discussion.\n\nDelegates will: \n\nBe clear about their roles and responsibilities as safeguarding leaders \nIncrease confidence and knowledge of a broad range of contemporary safeguarding concerns \nPractice applying their knowledge of pathways of need and referrals \nPractice their understanding of thresholds of child protection and early help and how to effectively work with other agencies such as schools and contribute to multi-agency safeguarding discussions. \n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeakers: \n \nClaire Dan\, Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa \nClaire is Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.

SUMMARY:BSA Certificate in Boarding Practice – Boarding Management
DESCRIPTION:The BSA’s Programme of Professional Development and Training is the most comprehensive CPD package offered to staff in boarding schools\, and includes a series of professional practice Certificate courses specifically designed to meet the practical needs of boarding staff and provide an internationally recognised qualification in Boarding Education. \nThis is a two year modular course aimed specifically at staff working in and around boarding. Over the last 20 years  approx. 3000 House Tutors\, Matrons\, Support Staff\, School Nurses\, Assistants\, House Parents and HsMs have completed this Award. \n\nPart 1: BSA Certificate in Boarding Practice – Pastoral Care\n\nand one of these: \n\nPart 2: BSA Advanced Certificate in Boarding Practice – Boarding Management\nPart 2: BSA Advanced Certificate in Boarding Practice for School Nurses\nPart 2: BSA Certificate in Boarding Practice – Pupil Support and Welfare\nPart 2: BSA Advanced Certificate in Boarding Practice – International Students\n\nWhat does this course cover? \nThis course is taken by both graduate teaching and non-graduate house staff\, including matrons\, assistant house staff and house parents\, with responsibility for the care and welfare of boarding pupils. The course sessions will broadly cover the following areas: \n\nOrganisation and communication in a boarding school; outcomes for boarders; adolescent development; eSafety issues and challenges\nMajor legislation as it affects life in a boarding school; safeguarding issues; National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools; The Boarding Team; working with parents\nLegal awareness; leadership and management; pupil induction\nConflict resolution; counselling skills; structures for managing crises and stress in boarding schools;\nEmotional and mental health issues; bereavement\, loss and divorce\nNursing Issues and physical matters; relationships;\nA consideration of some of the challenges that young people face as they develop.\n\nHow will this course help me to develop personally and professionally? \n● Be able to evaluate and have a clear appreciation of the personal and professional needs and skills involved in your boarding role; \n● Develop greater knowledge and understanding of the issues covered in the syllabus; \n● Develop\, through support and guidance\, the range of personal strategies you use to resolve relevant welfare concerns for your pupils; \n● Develop your ability to reflect critically on your work and evaluate the need for change or action; \n● Develop your study and planning skills and your ability to analyse reading and reference material; \n● Be able to communicate and defend your views and opinions orally and in writing; \nIn addition\, at graduate level\, successful completion of the course will enable you to: \n● Develop a clear vision of the school’s management strategies for providing good pastoral care; \n● Develop your study and time management skills and your ability to analyse reading and a wide range of reference sources; \nHow is the course organised? \nThe course is organised around a combination of intensive study days which contain a variety of teaching methods and opportunities to learn in different ways; short lectures\, presentations and discussions led by students\, together with group problem solving exercises and case studies. Group discussion is a particularly important aspect of this module\, enabling you to look at the theory in the light of your own practical experience.
