DESCRIPTION:Date: September 23 – September 24\, 2024\nTime: 09:30 – 16:30\nCost: SACPA/BSA Member Rate: £470\, Non-member Rate: £940*\nAudience: Level 3 certificate training for DSL’s DDSLs\, SENCO’s\, Designated teachers for Looked After Children\, Senior Leaders\, Trustees\, Governors\nPlatform: Zoom (online)\n\n\nCourse outline: \nThe designated safeguarding lead (and any deputies) should undergo training every two years to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to carry out the role and to support ongoing development of their practice.  \nThis two-day (Level 3) Sacpa advanced certificate programme has been developed to support the practice of safeguarding leaders and aspiring safeguarding leaders.  \nThe learning outcomes of this programme are based on the UK statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024. The topic areas and practice exercises will incorporate examples from international practice\, charity and private sector practice\, statutory guidance and safeguarding systems in devolved areas of the UK.  \nThe deign of this programme includes a range of teaching methods\, case study and encouragement of reflective practice and debate which brings personal and professional values\, legislative\, regulatory\, statutory frameworks and the challenges of multi-agency working into the processing of core topic areas. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nThe role of the safeguarding lead\nSafer organisations and a culture of listening to children\nTrauma informed practice and hidden harm\nContextual safeguarding\nOnline harm\nSpecific safeguarding topics (FGM\, forced marriage)\nChild-on-child abuse\nSEND\, vulnerability\nThe harmer\, the harmed\nPrevent duty\, exploitation and trafficking\nEarly help and commissioning early help interventions\nWorking with agencies within statutory frameworks for Children in Need\nWorking with youth justice agencies\, probation and police\nInformation sharing\nThe safeguarding leader: professional development\, the facilitator of professional development\, supervision\, coaching and wellbeing.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nUnderstand the importance of the role the designated safeguarding lead has in providing information and support to local authority children social care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children or refresh their current understanding \nExplore ways of encouraging a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings\, among all staff\, in any measures the school or college may put in place to protect them or refresh their current knowledge and practice \nUnderstand the lasting impact that adversity and trauma can have\, including on children’s behaviour\, mental health and wellbeing\, and what is needed in responding to this in promoting educational outcomes \nEnhance their understanding of the unique risks associated with online safety and be confident that they have the relevant knowledge and up to date capability required to keep children safe whilst they are online at school or college \nDevelop enhanced alertness to the specific needs of children in need\, those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)\, those with relevant health conditions and young carers or refresh their current levels of alertness \nExplore the additional risks that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) face online\, for example\, from bullying\, grooming and radicalisation and are confident they have the capability to support children with SEND to stay safe online or refresh their current knowledge and practice \nUnderstand and support the school or college with regards to the requirements of the Prevent Duty and provide advice and support to staff on protecting children from the risk of radicalisation \nUnderstand the assessment process for providing early help and statutory intervention\, including local criteria for action and local authority children’s social care referral arrangements \nHave a working knowledge of how local authorities conduct a child protection case conference and a child protection review conference and be able to attend and contribute to these effectively when required to do so or refresh their working knowledge \nUnderstand the importance of information sharing\, both within the school and college\, and with the safeguarding partners\, other agencies\, organisations and practitioners \nFocus on their own development as a professional safeguarding practitioner and on developing expertise\, so they can support and advise staff and help them feel confident on welfare\, safeguarding and child protection matters.  \n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: \n \nClaire Dan\, Director of Safeguarding BSA Group and Director\, Sacpa \nClaire is Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.

In the home-from-home environment of boarding where you are in loco parentis\, building and maintaining appropriate relationships are critical. Our webinar will focus on ways you can establish professional boundaries while still creating rapport with pupils and those you work with. She has a wealth of experience in boarding care\, having worked for over 10 years in and across different boarding settings. She has also worked as a Boarding\, SEN and Safeguarding governor in schools across both sectors. Louise gained a Distinction in her MBA and returned to the boarding environment when taking up the post of Deputy Head at Kent College.

Whilst permanent members of the boarding team receive clear information on the policies and processes that keep each House safe\, how much information do supporting staff and regular visitors receive?  \nThis webinar will provide a concise induction addressing the usual processes and policies that practitioners need to be aware of to ensure the safety of boarders within their Houses.  \nTraining topics will include: \n\nThe welcome: signing in\, keys and keypads\nOpen door policy \nManaging disclosures and working with the House team. \n\nLearning outcomes \n\nAn increased awareness of the reality of safeguarding policy when visiting a Boarding House \nAn increased understanding of best practice for visiting staff or visitors to promote the safety and safeguarding of boarders. \n\nBOOK NOW \n\nMark Robinson\, BSA Senior Consultant \nMark has a Product Design Degree from Brunel University and a PGCE. His first post in independent education was as Assistant Master at Christ’s Hospital in Horsham where he held several positions including Assistant Housemaster to a junior boy’s boarding house. After five years he moved on to Ardingly College in West Sussex as a Head of Department and Housemaster to a joint day and boarding house. Mark has been an inspector on boarding inspections\, an Assistant Housemaster to a girls’ boarding house and fully involved in teaching up to ‘A‘ Level. \nIn 2002 Mark gave up teaching to set up Mentor Education Services Ltd\, a business offering education-related consultancy services to the independent sector\, initially training\, interview coaching and professional development but also marketing and pre-inspection to schools both in the independent and maintained sector. \nMark was appointed as Assistant Director of Training for the Boarding Schools’ Association in 2010\, where he continued offering training and consultancy to independent and state schools both in the UK and around the world. In 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Head Pastoral at Collège du Léman in Switzerland\, a large international boarding and day school. After gaining some further\, valuable international experience\, Mark returned to the UK to continue his training and consultancy in the Independent and state school sectors.
