BSA Group appoints new Non-Executive Chair for 2023

Posted: 8th July 2022

It is with great pleasure that BSA Group announces the appointment of their first Non-Executive Chair, Ed Jones, who will join the team from January 1, 2023.

The appointment follows Andrew Rattue’s retirement as Principal, St Clare’s, Oxford and BSA Chair 2022 this summer.

Andrew writes:

“As we reach the end of another busy year, I hope you have some well-earned and richly-deserved rest and relaxation lined up over the summer. After the challenges of the last couple of years, particularly during the pandemic, it’s especially important during this break to enjoy some quiet time away from work, so that you can return fully refreshed in September.

Once again the boarding sector can be immensely proud of everything it’s accomplished over the past year. There have continued to be challenges related to the pandemic, and the terrible events we’ve witnessed unfolding in Ukraine in recent months. But we’ve been able to respond quickly and effectively, with one thing at forefront at all times: supporting our boarders.

The end of this academic year also marks the completion of my term of office as BSA Chair as I retire from both Headship and the world of education after more than 35 years. I’d like to thank you for all your support throughout my time as Chair. It’s been a pleasure working with you, and it was great to see so many of you in person at the BSA Annual Conference for Heads back in May.

Mark Lauder, Headmaster at Strathallan School, will be taking over from me as Interim Chair for the remainder of 2022. Many of you will remember that Mark was previously BSA Chair in 2020, and I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing him all the best as he returns to the role until the end of this calendar year.

Looking ahead to 2022/23, we’re delighted to announce that Ed Jones has been appointed BSA Group’s first Non-Executive Chair from January 1, 2023.

This new role means that the Chair of BSA will no longer also be Chair of BSA Group and the Group Board, in line with the Chairs of Sacpa, HIEDA, BAISIS and TIOB. This is the right step for BSA Group in terms of good governance and will allow the Non-Executive Chair to concentrate entirely on the Group and its development.

Ed is former CFO of cruise company Carnival UK, is a current non-executive director and audit chair of Make UK, current chair of the Colgate-Palmolive UK Pension Fund and a member of the executive committee of HIEDA. He is a passionate supporter of all we do at BSA Group and is excited to be bringing his experience and expertise to help us develop further over the three years of his appointment.”
