King Edward’s Witley brings the Magic of Maths alive

Posted: 1st February 2022

Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th January Year 5 children from 8 local prep and primary schools visited King Edward’s Witley for an interactive and exciting production of Mathmagics! Live hosted by actor David Hall.

Lasting just 50 minutes, the audience were introduced to the magic of mathematics using a range of simple props.  Each show consisted of fun facts and some top tips on how to impress family and friends.  David talked and about famous mathematicians and their work giving examples throughout.  With volunteers in abundance, Ancient Egyptian methodology was demonstrated visually using ropes and through holding a long scroll from left to right the audience learnt how a fortune could be made through cleaning cars!  The children’s enthusiasm was evident, David’s show made it fun and easy to understand.

Justin Benson, Director of Admissions, commented, “It was lovely to welcome so many schools to King Edward’s Witley once again, everyone enjoyed having the opportunity to take part. We last hosted Mathmagics! Live via Zoom in 2021 so it made this event even more special.”

By explaining how amazing maths can be, David’s shows spark curiosity and enthusiasm in his audiences. The children who were chosen to go up on stage helped to explain theories and facts making it physically much more interesting and fun. Much laughter, peppered with a little bit of magic, made each show a very successful event for everyone.
