Pupils at Bromsgrove Preparatory School have enjoyed the cold weather this week by toasting marshmallows over a fire. Learning outdoors has also enabled the pupils understand how layering up their clothing provides warmth and builds resilience.
Forest School is an important part of learning at the School. The pupils have weekly sessions where they learn about the natural world in a holistic child centred learning environment. At this time of year, the sessions often centre around the fire with toasting food and drinking hot chocolate.
Pupils have built tree houses, zip lines, dens, bug hotels, planted a hedge and even tried to make mud bricks. The weather is our friend and the activities are led by the seasonal changes in the natural world.
Forest school provides pupils with an opportunity to work as a team, building self-confidence and impacting on an increased level of self-esteem.
