Rydal Penrhos School has announced a series of landmark changes as it looks to enhance its position within the independent education sector.
Pupil numbers at the school were up ten per cent at the beginning of the academic year in September, with 80 per cent of those living and learning at Rydal Penrhos now enrolled as day pupils.
This can be attributed to the 2018 set of exam results achieved at both A-level and GCSE, with Sixth Formers securing 45.1% A*-A marks, which is the highest in the school’s history by some margin since the introduction of the A* grade.
In accordance with this change in need, the school’s Governing Body has announced the launch of “Project Bold”, which will see the gradual transition of Rydal Penrhos to a full day school providing excellent independent education meeting the needs of families by 2021.
This decision has come following a lengthy period of strategic review on all aspects of the site, taking in factors such as the changing market for independent education and the general economic climate.
Rydal Penrhos will become a school that operates with a teaching week from Monday to Friday from September this year following findings from a recent pupil and parent survey. The school will continue to provide its excellent co-curricular and wrap-around care for both Prep and Senior pupils and their families.
This will see an alignment between Prep and Senior School days for those parents with children at both establishments, which will also result in a reduction in expectation on teaching staff to provide non-teaching duties to allow them to focus on the best possible academic delivery.
Julian Barnes, Chair of Governors at Rydal Penrhos, said: “The school’s Senior Leadership Team will act as the implementation committee, addressing the many practical issues that are raised by these proposed strategic changes.
“The school is committed to ensuring its continued success in both high academic achievements and pastoral care based on its strong Methodist ethos.
“We will be providing regular updates as these exciting developments unfold.”
