Henry Slade opens new playground at Plymouth College Preparatory School
29th November 2018

Former pupil and England Rugby International, Henry Slade, visited Plymouth College Preparatory School to open the newly-built playground.

He enjoyed reminiscing about his time at the school and catching up with his former teachers.  Henry also chatted to the pupils, many of whom are keen rugby players themselves, and who benefit from the specialist PE teaching they receive at the school where Henry started out on his rugby career.  This month, Henry was part of the England Rugby squad in the Quilter Internationals that took on South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and Australia.

The playground is equipped with exciting features for the children to enjoy, such as a sandpit, obstacle course and hopscotch and has been part-funded by the Parents’ Association.  Locally-based play specialists Green Scheme Solutions designed the wonderful new play area.  Simon White, from Green Scheme, said: “We worked closely with the school to develop an eco-friendly playground; installing a challenging play trail made from recycled plastics and an all-weather play grass surface, allowing the pupils to play outside all year round.”

Mrs Turner-Moore, Chair of the Parents’ Association, said: “The Parents’ Association have worked hard to raise funds for the new playground and we would like to thank everyone who has helped out. We are so proud to be able to provide such a brilliant facility for the school which will last for many years to come.”
