60-strong cast for Dramatic Society production of Les Mis revealed

A huge number of aspiring performers have been cast into various roles for Rydal Penrhos’ eagerly anticipated Dramatic Society production.

Head of Sixth Form Leah Crimes, Director of Music Pete Williams and teacher Richard Davies have confirmed the full cast for their performance of the iconic French novel Les Misérables next year.

Upper Sixth Form pupil Sean Hughes will take on the lead role of Jean Valjean, with Prefect Jenny Blackman looking to bring the character of Fantine to life.

Amy Yue, and Hannah Davies will share the role of Cosette, with Caitriona Searl and Emily Jones impressing considerably during the auditions and will take on the personality of Little Cosette.

Young law student Marius Pontmercy will be played by the enormously talented Kevin Farrell, and the outstanding vocal talent of Zahra Shamsi will also be taking the stage in her role as Éponine.

James Gilman, Will Rutherford, Perry Williams and Noah Langford will share the role of Gavroche, and the charismatic presence of Tegid Goodman-Jones will lead Les Amis de l'ABC (the French Uprising) as Enjolras.

Deputy Head Boy Miles Poller will also play a significant part in the production in his roles of The Bishop of Digne and Monsieur Thenardier, with an astonishing 60 pupils involved overall.

Music teacher Richard Davies, said: “It is not often that schools can mount a production of Les Misérables - the demands of the singing and acting mean it’s a real challenge.

“We are thrilled to be in a position where the calibre of performers we have at school will excel in their respective roles - the standard at audition was truly outstanding.

“We as a creative team are very excited to get started.”

Les Misérables is the longest running show in West End history, it has been seen by 70 million people worldwide in 51 countries and 22 languages.

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Mis tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
