2018 has yielded another outstanding crop of A-Level results for the pupils of Loretto School.
Building on last year’s results, 2018 sees Lorettonians experiencing more Oxbridge success than ever before in the school’s 191 year history. This year the school presented 14 candidates to Oxbridge, 100% of which were invited to final interview. Within the cohort, to The University of Oxford: Jonny Cunningham, Engineering (Brasenose), Daniel Dalland, Mathematics (Magdalen), and Lachlann Hinley, History (St John’s). To The University of Cambridge: Robert Ogilvy, Engineering (Emmanuel), and Yale Pan, Mathematics (Homerton).
The Headmaster, Dr. Graham R. W. Hawley commented:
‘Loretto provides an education for life, and the school prides itself on nurturing and inspiring every individual, cultivating and celebrating their talents. Loretto enables an environment where young people, careful thought, hard work and ambition are rewarded and respected. These results are the products of our fantastic pupils and dedicated staff working together. We share our pupils’ ambitions; we want the very best outcomes attainable to them, and to enable them to succeed in life.’
With the results still coming in, already over 90% of Lorettonians achieved the results they required to secure a place at their destination of choice, and many received unconditional offers based on the strength of their applications. This year in the UK, destinations include Aberdeen, Bristol, Dundee, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Lancaster, London, Loughborough, Manchester, Newcastle, St Andrews, Stirling, Warwick, and York. An ever increasing number of pupils use their Loretto education to unlock opportunities at international institutions. This year in the USA, four Lorettonians are taking up places at destinations including Northwestern University (Evanston, IL), the University of Pennsylvania, and Saint Joseph’s University (both Philadelphia, PA); and amongst these, two pupils have secured scholarships (for Golf, and Hockey).
With 36.5% of pupils achieving the top A* & A grades, and 14 pupils securing straight A* & A grades this year, Lorettonians are taking up places to study subjects as diverse as Computer Games Design, Creative Writing, Criminology, Film Production, French, International Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Medicine, Music, Musical Theatre, Nursing, Philosophy, and Teaching.
