New Head Boy and Head Girl appointed
30th May 2018

Rydal Penrhos School has officially confirmed its new Head Girl for the 2018/19 academic year.

Headmaster Simon Smith announced the appointments at the school’s annual Speech Day event on May 26, with Nick Fiorita and Gowri Pradeep deservedly chosen for the role.

The pair have been a hugely influential presence across all areas of Rydal Penrhos life, and this has continued during their first year in the Sixth Form.

Gowri is a strong academic who achieved exceptional GCSE results last summer, securing two scores of nine in English (First Language) and English Literature in accordance with the new grading system, which put her in the top two percent of all pupils nationwide.

There was further success courtesy of an incredible eight A* grades in Art and Design, Biology, Chemistry, French, Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Religious Studies, while also securing a Distinction in Additional Mathematics.

She is also a talented artist, netballer, played a huge part of the phenomenal contribution made by the Sixth Form Charity Committee and recently travelled to Uganda as part of an ongoing Rydal Penrhos project.

The 17-year-old is also part of the Peer Mentoring team that supports younger members of the school community, which will stand her in good stead as she takes up the position.

Nick is another that has thrived since joining Rydal Penrhos as a Reception class pupil in 2006, and he was recently part of the school’s U18 Boys’ Hockey side that sealed the National Championship with a dramatic win over Christ College Brecon.

His work with the Charity Committee and Peer Mentoring teams have drawn significant praise, while Nick is also leading by example at his local Army Cadet squadron and recently held a talk with Year 9 pupils about the benefits of joining such an organisation.

The 17-year-old was another who recorded outstanding GCSE results last year, attaining no fewer than eight A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Home Economics, Italian, Mathematics, Physics and Religious Studies, while also achieving an eight grade in English (First Language) and a seven grade in English Literature.
