Millfield Prep pupils Harriet Lockley from Wedmore and Freddie Turnell from Shapwick took the top spots in the individual and team competition at the Independent Schools Golf Association Salver at Wellington College.
The Year 8 pupils started strongly on the course, with Harriet securing the overall individual victory with 71 shots. Freddie followed closely behind with 72 shots, which meant the pair took the team salver by 20 shots.
This follows a strong series of Schools International, national and regional competitions for the pair over Easter. Freddie played in a Schools International and was part of the winning England team in a Ryder Cup-style format against Scotland, and gained an U16 Somerset County Championship title to add to his U14 trophy.
Harriet played in an U14s International for Wales against Ireland (winning for Wales) and she also played in multiple national events in Scotland, Wales and France and reduced her handicap to 3. Harriet has also competed at the inaugural U16 British Girls’ Championship at Fulford Golf Club and the Welsh Open Ladies Championships at Aberdovey Golf Club. The golfer also recently won the Somerset County Ladies Golf Association U18 Junior Championships at Wedmore Golf Club.
Millfield Prep Director of Golf, Ian Vibert, says, “Harriet and Freddie have achieved great things withtheir golf at school, county and national events. This success is down to the great attitude they both show in wanting to improve and their commitment to their goals.”
