Rydal Penrhos’ senior netball side closed out their season in fine style with an impressive 34-14 win over Oswestry School.
The team have endured a frustrating campaign due to the adverse weather conditions, but they made the most out of their final contest, with some turning out for the school for the last time before they depart on the next stage of the education journey this summer.
The home side got off to a blistering start in the opening quarter of the contest, with exceptional shooting from Soumini Peeka and Becky Lawton contributing to a 14-3 advantage.
This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who put their opponents under pressure for periods of the second quarter but tremendous defensive work from Head Girl Olivia Williams, Amy Cole-King and Mollie Smithfield held them at bay to keep the hosts ahead.
Emily Cashell, Sam Randall and Elinor Davies kept the tempo high throughout for the Rydal Penrhos side, who continued to score at a frequent rate thanks to their impressive attacking prowess that saw them emerge victorious by a 20-point margin.
This result comes as part of the team’s overall development under Head of Girls’ Games Nicky Head and specialist Netball coach Heidi Blakewell, who have worked tirelessly with the group to help them improve all facets of their game and their ability to work together as a unit.
