A senior boys’ hockey side at Rydal Penrhos have set their sights on further national accolades after securing another regional title.
The school’s U18 squad hosted the North Wales Schools’ Championships on Wednesday, March 7, which also featured other hopefuls from across the region looking to claim the prize.
They began the tournament in fine style with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Ysgol Friars, despite finding themselves 2-1 down at the break.
After the interval saw a much-improved attacking effort from the group which saw them find the net three times with no reply to begin the tournament with success.
Sam Khorram-Sefat led the way with a well-taken brace, with Welsh youth international Jacob Heaton-Rue and Finlay Hare also hitting the target
This was followed up by another complete performance to take home the title against Eirias High School in Colwyn Bay, with the hosts emerging victorious by a comfortable 3-0 margin.
Zac Blomeley was one of the players to really make a difference and this was reflected with two wonderful finishes, while Hare also made it two goals in as many contests to round off the scoring.
The squad will now begin working hard with Rydal Penrhos’ dedicated coaching team in the hope of gaining further national recognition from the Welsh Schools’ Championships, which will take place on Thursday, April 26.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This was another outstanding effort from our senior hockey side, and congratulations to go them for sealing the North Wales Championship once again.
“Hopefully this will spur them on in the coming weeks and continue the rich tradition of national hockey success we have accumulated in recent years here at Rydal Penrhos.”
