At the beginning of term, Steyning Grammar School (SGS) launched a fundraising campaign to raise £5000 towards the British Red Cross Hurricane Irma Fund to support communities devastated by the natural disaster. This cause is very close to the hearts of staff and students given the long association Steyning has with the Caribbean Islands and the number of Caribbean students currently at SGS, both in the day school and Boarding.
SGS are thrilled to announce that the students have achieved their target and have raised a total of £5286.50. The Caribbean students have worked tirelessly to raise the awareness of the campaign at numerous local Primary Schools, Church groups and within school. SGS are so proud of the way in which the local community have supported them.
On Wednesday 22nd November, SGS were honoured to welcome Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, The High Commissioner of Antigua and Barbuda, to whom they presented the cheque. High Commissioner Hill and her team were overwhelmed by the campaign.
