A former Rydal Penrhos pupil has been awarded a prestigious scholarship with a leading design, engineering and project management consultancy.

Jack Sissons, who left the school in the summer, was successful in obtaining an Institute of Civil Engineers’ Quest Undergraduate Scholarship with global giants Atkins.

The Engineering student at the University of Durham will receive a significant financial award during the four years of his degree, in addition to paid work placements with the company during the holidays.

The ICE targets the brightest new University undergraduates and interviews are held each year in London to see who are worthy of being awarded one of their Quest Scholarships.

It has been a memorable few months for the 19-year-old, who earned no fewer than four A*’s in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics from his A-level examinations.

He thrived in his role of Deputy Head Boy last year alongside Will Marston, and has also made a number of appearances for Colwyn Bay Cricket Club’s senior side.

When Jack graduates in 2021 he will start a three-year graduate programme with Atkins in another hugely significant part of the scholarship.

Reverend Nick Sissons, Chaplain at Rydal Penrhos and father of Jack, said: "It honestly is no less than he deserves and sets himself up perfectly for the world of employment.

“It is a timely reminder of how hard work and dedication to your chosen subjects at school can really pay off."
