Sailing squad member Aidan Skinner has enjoyed an extremely busy summer as he continues to progress his talents on the water.
The Year 9 pupil at Rydal Penrhos has made a smooth transition to the Laser Radial Class with a number of standout efforts, which include a second placed finish in the General Handicap fleet at the CYRC (Club Youth Racing Circuit) event held at the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club, Beaumaris.
He completed two UK Laser Association (UKLA) Northern Region Grand Prix events at Glossop and Leigh and Lowton SC, racing against a predominantly adult fleet, before he became one of the youngest competitors at the UKLA National and Open Laser Championships at South Caernarvonshire YC at Abersoch, a six-day event with 142 sailors from both the UK and abroad.
The 13-year-old also completed his Power Boat Level Two award, further facilitating his instructing of younger sailors both at school and in the Scout Association, since previously obtaining his Assistant Instructor award, and also attended two weeks of race training at Plas Menai to gain his Intermediate Racing Certificate.
To round off a busy summer on the water, Aidan won his first club race at Port Dinorwic Sailing Club and achieved a Silver medal in the General Handicap Main Fleet at the North Wales Bala Onboard Festival.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “It has been an immensely busy few weeks for Aidan, and to achieve so much in such a short space of time is a truly wonderful achievement.”
