Felsted Artist Shortlisted for Prestigious Saatchi Gallery Prize

Felsted School art student, Matthew Gilham, age 17 from Ingatestone, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Saatchi Gallery Art Prize for Schools 2017.

Out of 24,000 entries, Matt's large canvas painting, called ‘The Life Model’, has been selected as one of the top 20 pieces to be on exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea, London from the 4th-13th July. The Saatchi Gallery Art prize is the highest profile School’s Art Competition in the UK and Matt will attend an award ceremony at the gallery on 4th July, where the winners and runners up will be announced.

Head of Art at Felsted, Mr David Smith comments; “This is a wonderful endorsement of how Felsted Art combines the theories of art with creativity.”

Matt has been an Art Scholar at Felsted for the past five years and hopes to achieve his offer to read Architecture at Liverpool University from the Autumn. This year, Felsted’s senior artists have enjoyed spectacular offers to study creative courses at some of the UK’s leading universities, from Fine Art and Graphic Communication at Nottingham to Art History at Exeter.
