Brentwood School’s Equestrian Team continued its successful season at the Annual Inter-Schools’ One Day Event at Poplar Park Equestrian Centre, Suffolk, on Sunday 19th March.
The early start for the riders, parents and supporters was well worthwhile as the 90cm team, consisting of Thomas Philpot, Emma Philpot, Grace Parrish and Imogen Pohl, was fortunate to be placed 2nd overall.
The day started with all four members, despite the strong winds, skilfully riding their dressage test. The team then jumped an impressive clean sweep; four clear rounds! Thomas, Emma, Imogen and Grace then embraced the Cross Country course with determination and speed! Thomas completing the one mile plus stretch in less than four and a half minutes! Grace was annoyingly hampered by a horse that was having problems on the course in front of her, which resulted in her having to overtake. Unfortunately the other horse then used Grace as a lead, which resulted in a couple of refusals.
The Brentwood School riders also achieved individual placings in their respective sections. Imogen 2nd on Mr Bubbles, Emma 3rd on Moynoe Gypsie, and Thomas 6th on Prince of Donard and Grace led her dressage section with ease on Gainstwon Heather.
Imogen and Grace also competed as individuals in the One Day Event. Imogen achieved 2nd on her sister’s Pony Ardlonan Lad in the 90cm and Emma won the 100cm on her pony, Mocklershill Man.
A fantastic result for all. The team was determined throughout the day and the atmosphere, despite the hectic schedule of four riders with six ponies between them, competing individually and as a team was truly inspiring. Coach Annette Philpot inspired and motivated the riders during warm up and ensured that everyone was in the correct dressage arena, jumping ring and ready to start cross country course all on time! Well done Team Brentwood!
*The first event of the season at Wix Equestrian Centre resulted in 1st place for both the 90cm and 1 metre team, qualifying for the National Country Championships in April at Bury Farm, Bucks. In addition to this team success, Ellie Burrell and Imogen Pohl gained individual placings in the 70cm and 80cm.
