Celebrations were in order this week as Stewart House, the Pre-Preparatory department of Felsted Preparatory School, marked their 20th anniversary with the unveiling of a commemorative mosaic. The mosaic, created by the pupils in the autumn of 2012, depicts aspects of the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and hangs on the exterior wall of the dedicated, multi-sensory building for children aged 4-6.
Artist Elliott Wilson, Old Felstedian and former Worcestershire county cricket player, returned to Felsted on Monday 1st July to officially open a large mosaic, which was designed by Alison Pierse, former Head of Art at Felsted Preparatory School and Elliott’s art teacher in the 1980s!
Headmistress Mrs Jenny Burrett commented; “We are all very proud of what we achieved together, and the mosaic has certainly attracted many compliments from visitors to Stewart House. We have made a splendid memorial for 20 years of Felsted Pre-Prep, the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics. It was fitting that it should be opened by an Old Felstedian whose two chief interests and talents, cricket and art, had been nurtured by his experience in the Preparatory School.”
