Holyport College – Headteacher appointed and Funding Agreement secured in advance of September 2014

Holyport College has appointed Walter Boyle to be its first Headteacher. Walter is currently Deputy Principal at Wymondham College, Norfolk, a leading state boarding school. He will start in his post in January 2014 prior to the school opening in September 2014.

In the same week, Holyport College received news that its Funding Agreement has been signed by the Minister for Education, Lord Nash.

The Holyport College project is fast-moving. Planning consent was granted by RBWM in May 2013 and enabling works commenced on site on 10 June.

  1. Holyport College is established as an academy trust. Established under the Government’s Free Schools programme, Holyport College will be funded by the Department for Education. Eton College is sole educational sponsor.
  2. Walter Boyle was educated at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow where he studied French. After teacher training at the Queen’s University of Belfast, he taught for eleven years in Northern Ireland. During that time he worked at Strangford College, a brand new school established to educate young Protestants and Roman Catholics together. He moved to Germany in 2005 to work for Service Children’s Education. As the Assistant Head Teacher of Prince Rupert School, he led the school’s pastoral and inclusion strategy. Returning to the United Kingdom in 2008, he took up the role of Dean of Students at Wymondham College, one of England’s leading state boarding schools. He is currently the Deputy Principal at Wymondham and is looking forward to his next challenge as Headteacher of Holyport College. He graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a Master of Education degree in 2003 and has also completed his Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).
