Oswestry School has presented a cheque to Medic Malawi founder Stephen Drew after raising an outstanding sum for the charity. Pupils took part in a sponsored whole school walk just before the school broke up for summer and managed to collect £3,222.14 in sponsorship donations.
Medic Malawi is a small charity that funds a hospital in Mtunthama, rural Malawi. The hospital opened in 2001, together with a clinic for feeding the malnourished and an orphanage for 70 children.
Headmaster Julian Noad commented, “The pupils and parents excelled themselves in supporting this worthy cause. Most of the children took part in a 12 mile walk around the town while a small contingent followed the Oswestry Round, a gruelling 33 mile hike. We are extremely proud to present Medic Malawi with such a substantial sum.”
