Nine Millfield pupils represented Somerset at the English Schools Championships, the major athletics team event of the year, this month. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams reached the national final once more and finished second and fifth respectively.
Year 9 pupil Marcia Sey was the stand out performer, winning gold in the 75 metre hurdles. Year 10 pupils Anna Brophy, Elise Thorner and Lower Sixth pupil Tamsin Campbell were also the highest places finishers from the bottom end of their age group bandings.
In addition, Year 10 pupil Elise Thorner became the first Somerset athlete to be selected for English Schools at cross country, individual championships and the combined event championships.
Director of Athletics, Alan Richardson commented; “It’s pleasing to see such strong individual and team performances from Millfield pupils. Our programme is focussed on developing young athletes towards senior success through diverse training and competition opportunities. Marcia in particular has shown great promise and dedication throughout the year and along with her team mates, played a key part in achieving three national championship medals this year.”
