State Boarding Forum
9th June 2016

On Monday this week, the inaugural meeting of the BSA's State Boarding Forum (SBF) was held at Adams' Grammar School in Shropshire. As you will be aware the SBF replaces the former State Boarding Schools' Association, which has now merged back into the BSA so there is one association representing all boarding schools in the UK.

I am proud to have been asked to be the first Chair of the SBF with Nick Wergen, Headmaster of Steyning Grammar School as Vice Chair. As Chair, I am now also an additional Vice Chair of the BSA, representing the interests of state boarding schools.

The SBF's first task is to appoint a committee to replace the SBSA management committee. It has been agreed that in addition to the Chair and Vice Chair, the committee will have five regional representatives. These will be two representatives for the South East, one for the South West, one for the West and East Midlands, and one for the North. The role of the regional committee members will be to represent and liaise with the 8-10 state boarding schools in their area, so we can make the new SBF as inclusive and relevant to members as possible.

We would like to appoint the regional representatives on the SBF committee before the end of the summer term. Representatives should be Heads, Deputy or Assistant Heads with boarding responsibility, or Heads/Directors of Boarding. Individuals can self nominate, or a school or colleague can suggest someone from their region to represent them. Once we have a list of potential representatives, we will circulate the names to gain the views/support of members. Likewise, if we do not get nominations from a particular region, we will suggest colleagues for consideration.

If you are interested in either being one of the SBF regional representatives, or nominating someone for this role, please email BSA Chief Executive Robin Fletcher via robin@boarding.org.uk by Friday, June 24. We will then announce the nominees a week later.

The current SBSA website will change over to SBF next week using the URL www.stateboarding.org.uk. Please continue to send your school news to bsa@boarding.org.uk.

The SBF is excited to continue the valuable work of SBSA in representing and promoting state boarding and I look forward to working with you to achieve this.
