Felsted School had the privilege of welcoming Mr Michael Sharp, CEO of Debenhams as the guest speaker for the 2016 Cromwell Lecture.
Mr Sharp reflected on the qualities that led him from an eighteen year old management trainee, to being the CEO of an international, multi-channel company with over 240 stores across 27 countries.
Mr Sharp answered challenging questions from the audience that focussed on the future of retailing and high street stores. There were fascinating insights into how consumers are behaving in this high-tech world and the customer profiling that companies use to target their markets.
The event, hosted by Felsted Library, brought together Felsted Sixth Form students, staff, parents and the local community.
Felsted Librarian, Mrs Nichola Martin commented “It was an inspirational talk that provided plenty for the audience to contemplate, focusing on family, dedication and hard work, embracing change and the qualities to be found in leaders.”
The next event, to be held on 27th September, will be The Butler Lecture, given by Old Felstedians Angus and Bella Collins, who recently completed record-breaking rows of the Atlantic.
