Pupils from Oswestry School entered two teams into the British Schools Northern Links competition held at Fleetwood Golf Club with, Rebecca Holywell, 15, showing driving ambition by winning the Girls Nett and Second Overall Nett.
Despite the loss of a competition hole due to bad weather the previous day, the teams teed off on a cold and bright day with little wind to hamper their progress.
This is the second year the competition has been played and over 50 players took part in the tournament. Daniel Haycocks, 13, was the first to return his card (Gross 85, Nett 69), followed by Connor Owen, 12, (Gross 81, Nett 71) and Rhys Edkins (Gross 71, Nett 65).
PE teacher, Mr Kevin Perry-Evans, said, “I am extremely pleased with the team's application and attitude on the day, every team member played their part and I am extremely proud. All four pupils should be pleased with their performances. Daniel and Connor were the youngest team competing and showed a great maturity around the course. Rhys led by example and gave a solid performance. Special mention has to go to Rebecca, who won the Girls Nett and 2nd overall Nett.”
