Superstar swimmer Zach Speakman took home a haul of medals from a recent meet.

The talented 13 year-old claimed no fewer than 13 medals from the North Wales Regional Swimming Championships, which were held over a four day period.

In total the Rydal Penrhos pupil won five gold, six silver and two bronze medals for his efforts.

What made this more impressive was that Zach was competing in the 14 year-old category, meaning he was testing his skills against older and more experienced swimmers.

In addition to his medal success, Zach also beat his personal best time in the 100m freestyle, which now stands below one minute, 59 seconds.

He will be joining fellow Rydal Penrhos pupil Martyna Ruszkowska at the National Swim competition in Swansea, with the pair looking to add to their gold medal collection after claiming three between them at the Urdd National Gala.

Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “It was a very good performance from Zach, who continues to have an impressive season in the water.

“He has worked very hard on all aspects and that is definitely paying off when you see the success he is having at various competitions against more developed swimmers who have more experience.

“If he continues to show this level of commitment then there is no doubt that there will be further medals for Zach to celebrate in the not-too-distant future.”
