A group of young sports stars at a Colwyn Bay school travelled to the North of England for a special tour.

Thirty one Year 7 and 8 pupils at Rydal Penrhos headed to Yorkshire on Friday, February 4, where they tested their skills at a number of Netball and Hockey events against schools in the region.

The party was led by Deputy Head Tim Cashell, who was accompanied by sports coach Dawn Jones and Andrea Cashell.

First stop on the tour was Wakefield, where U13 Boys’ and Girls’ Netball sides competed against Silcoates School in what were two hotly contested affairs.

Saturday’s section of the tour saw the teams test their skills against Ackworth School in Pontefract, before they moved on to Cheshire on Sunday to take part in a tournament at Chester Hockey Club.

Mr Cashell, said: “Thank you to Mrs Jones and Mrs Cashell for overseeing a most successful junior sports tour and to the 31 pupils that made it so enjoyable.

“The standard of play was extremely high throughout and the pupils represented the school in a very positive fashion, which was also pleasing.

“We would like thank Silcoates and Ackworth schools, in addition to Chester Hockey Club for their hospitality throughout the weekend.”

Among the activities the pupils took part in when not competing were swimming, ten pin bowling and eating out.
