A shining light in the gothic darkness
15th October 2015

Year 8 entered into the spirit of National Poetry Day by writing poems about the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  Their poems captured the spirit of the gloomy, gruesome and gothic novel.

Maddy Britton said, ‘I enjoyed writing these poems because it enabled us to bring in lots of aspects of the story’.

Annie Jeffrey enjoyed illustrating their poems, ‘This really brought our poems to life.  It was lots of fun!’

Year 11 explored the novel To Kill a Mockingbird while Year 7 wrote poems dedicated to Autumn.

Mrs Wilkinson, teacher of English, said that, ‘We always look forward to National Poetry Day; it is an excellent opportunity for our students to express their creative flair in an exciting and stimulating way’.
