Abingdon School sixth former Anthony Bracey has been selected to represent the UK as part of this year’s national team at the International Linguistics Olympiad in Bulgaria. The competition will take place at the American University in Blagoevgrad from 20-24 July.
Anthony won through the second round of the Linguistics Olympiad for the second year in succession, having been awarded a Gold in the first round.
Anthony, who is 17, says, "I really enjoy linguistics because it provides an opportunity to grapple with the raw elements of language (often in obscure languages only spoken by an isolated community), which doesn't tend to feature in normal classroom language teaching. Not only that, it is also an experience to meet so many people from across the world. It feels great to be representing the UK in something that you enjoy doing, despite the difficulty."
