Fela Sowande, a prolific artist and Year 9 boarding student at Sexey’s School, has been talent spotted for his own exhibition in the Bruton Museum, with Private View on Friday 12 June at 5pm and General Exhibition running until 15 July 2015.
Fela, who finds inspiration in Marvel comics and the world of celebrity, was selected by the Bruton Museum’s CaseSpace curator, Jackie Brooks, when her daughter Bea – a classmate of Fela’s – showed her pictures of his work from her mobile.
Commenting, Jackie Brooks said, “While there are lots of talented artists in the local schools, I was moved to showcase Fela’s work because it is clear from his work that he is really driven to draw – not just as part of his school classes, but because he really loves it. His art comes from his heart, and I think this will be very evident to anyone coming to view the exhibition.”
Fela Sowande added, “I couldn’t believe it when Ms Brooks asked me to have my art in an exhibition at the Museum. I’m so excited to see my art on the walls. I’d like to be a professional artist when I grow up but I never expected to have my drawings showcased so soon.”
Visitors to the Bruton Museum, 26 High Street, Bruton, BA10 0AA, will be able to see Fela Sowande’s exhibition until 15 July 2015, weekdays 11am-1pm and Saturday 11am-3pm. Admission is free.
